I have paid 7.75 for Union dues since I started working, and now I'm paying 8.44 for them, which is more than I make per hour. Is there a reason for this?
Mine went up by about 70 cents.....is this a nation wide thing? Is this even legal? No one told me about this and other people in this forum seem to have also had about a 70c increase.
I'm keeping my 10.75 to myself because I don't have to hand over money I earned to some pricks who need their luxury summer homes funded. All while claiming to "defend" the lowly employees.
I look at my check year to date. I have paid three times to the union what I pay to my insurance. Now the unions response was "well we negotiated that perk for you" ok so you negotiated my low rate insurance so that your union could screw me out of three times more money?! I don't like how they do not fully disclose to people that Texas is an at will state. Or that baggers will never qualify for raises but your dues will go up! Or that you have to send a letter at a very specific time only one opportunity a year to get out if the union. And that the letter has to be signed for to prove it was received. They are thieves and scammers. You can't speak out about them because they will tell you that they will come after your job if you do. The union sucks.

The union can't fire you. 0.o

Okay guys. I went and asked around, and found an answer. Keep in mind this only pertains to UFCW 876 (Michigan).
As of October 1, all union members are required to pay an additional 69c. They voted this through in their last meeting. When asked about employees who didn't receive benefits, the union and full timers said "Screw em, we'll use their money for ourselves."
There you have it. The union hasn't posted anything about this as far as I'm aware of. I think everyone should call their representative and complain, especially if you're a bagger or utility guy. You're basically paying for everyone else. If you're a regular clerk, you should also complain because chances are you're paying more in union dues than what you make an hour.
Besides calling your rep, be sure to attend the next meeting. I believe it's the beginning of next month.
