Next week I'll be working in Drug/GM helping to bring in the Christmas displays. I am normally a courtesy clerk, but management has seen fit to shuffle me around to a few different departments here lately.
Is Drug/GM a decent department or should I just remain a bagger?
I liked Drug/GM. You stock. As long as you're efficient and know where stuff goes, it's a nice break from the chaos up front. For the holidays it'll basically just be the seasonal aisle.
OK. I'm a bit worried because one of the guys I spoke with made it sound very complicated, involving lots of planogram research and correcting errors from corporate...but we'll see how it goes.
Since you're new, they're not going to have you make any big decisions. You'll probably be shown what to stock and where it goes. When you're done, find the person in charge and they'll find something else for you to do.

Yes, you need to go to Drug Gm as asked. That way you can shop for my Christmas gift while working. And, when you are done at your store, you need to volunteer at my store. There are 22 Christmas pallets and atleast 7 candy pallets choking up our backroom right now. What a mess trying to unload the regular trucks! Just barely enough room to drive the pallet jack thru the backroom.
More than likely, you will be pulling pallets out and helping a seasoned employee set-up the Christmas items. Someone else will figure out the planogram, hopefully. Good luck and have fun.
Regular GM involves a lot of rotating and small items. Go look at the medicine or shampoo aisles. Not too bad but be cautious of volunteering for it.

Planogram SUCKS. Basically they give you a stack of papers that show you how the isle should look when you're finished.... but finding a single product in a mixed set of 3 or more pallets isn't the easiest job in the world.
Make sure to get tape so you can hang the plan on the shelf.
It's not so much hard as it is just plain annoying.
Good Luck.

I used to be a bagger but got moved around and ended up in GM. Once I got the hang of it it was pretty great compared to the front end. As long as you don't mind doing a little manual labor (which you shouldn't if you're working here) then you'd probably enjoy it.
Plano does suck but since you're only there temporarily the GM dept head will probably help you out how things work. Most likely all you'll be doing is stocking.
Who knows they might even consider moving you over there if you seem fit. I was put in GM because one of the workers had vacation for the week, but I got the hang of it really well and management ended up setting me there permanently.

Last year I worked at a Market Place store and the amount of volume was overwhelming in GM! Movies, toys and candy! Shippers as far as the eye could see, and furniture everywhere! But if you have the proper direction it's fun and easy.
I noticed drug/GM is just a constant battle and you never really finish anything!
