Getting rid of Full time?

I have been a full time employee for a little over 5 years ( I was never part time) I stepped down from being a dept head in April because I could not give them 12 yrs of work in 8. Never enough hours in depts. I went to overnights so that I wouldn't lose as much money. Here it is in Nov and they are giving full time employees part time 35 hours ( this week) and hiring more and more part time people. I am married to a fellow worker that is grandfather in. Which is good. But they are taking away spousal insurance next year. Is this happening anywhere else?

In my contract, if there's enough hours to give full-time employees 40 hours for 5 days, that's what they get. They CANNOT hire more people if it endangers that 40 hours.

What state are you in?

Full time employees are gauranteed 40 hours where I am at.  And old contract employees are gauranteed 48.

I have been part time for 6 years and been getting 40+ for the last 2 years.  I work nights and they are having a hard time finding people to work overnight here so I get the extra hours.

But, yes, I think the new contract and key retailing is designed to break down older full time employees and make them retire or step down from dept head positions.  Mostly depends on how assholish the store manager wants to be.

The only full time bids going up around here are Department heads and department leads.

You should have fought them to not remove spousal insurance instead of letting them put it in there.

in the Kroger stores in the Cincinnati area and Dayton areas management is trying everything in the book to get rid of the older fulltime people. I should know I am one of the fulltime people they have went after. they will write you up for anything. sad thing is you cannot really trust the union anymore. I really feel like that Kroger will take away our insurance sometime soon and put all of us in obamacare. I have 25 months until retirement and I pray every day that I go into work I do not get suspended for a trumped up charge.

No offense, but a lot of full-timers are lazy and VERY self-entitled. Usually when I hear a full-timer screaming "injustice," it's just a case where they're being held to the same standard as any other employee. God forbid full-timers should have to work for their pay.

not all full timers are lazy. I have worked hard in 27 years. I did not vote for these contracts that screwed parttime people. I knew it was not right that part time was not getting everything so I always voted no on these contracts. think before you speak.

No, YOU think before you speak. I wrote "a lot." There are a FEW exceptions.

Hold on, first we need to thank this fulltimer. You actually have respect for the part timers and that is awesome! Thank you! :)

Yes, if you want full-time and don't want to be in management, it's time to get out of all retail jobs. This trend toward a low-wage part-time workforce has been increasing rapidly in retail. Forget Obamacare, you can thank Wal-Mart for that. They led the way and everyone else is following.

Well, I'm assuming you're the one this full-time guy was responding to, and just because you put "no offense, but..." in front of an offensive statement doesn't mean he doesn't get to take offense at it.

Where have you been ...in a cave some where? This entire topic has been hashed and rehashed many times. So in spite of all the breakroom lawyers mindless chatter that's been posted here's the deal... Kroger's master plan is and has been to establish across the boards in all divisions 70% PART TIME WORKFORCE thus leaving only 30% FULL TIME which basically means only Dept. Heads , some backups, and just a very few other key people. Your move of stepping down, although very understandable and noble, has placed you in Purgatory on your way to Part Time Hell. Regardless of what weak union bs contract you are currently under you and your unfortunate spouse are going to the < 30 hrs week average in the near future. Wake up and smell the Private Selection coffee... Kroger is all about record setting profits and that comes mostly by decreasing per employee cost. This is reality--- you have very little time now to get the hell out of retail and get a real career... hell driving a garbage truck will be a step up. Obamacare was the last missing piece of the puzzle to complete their master plan. The only large retail company that's not determined to greedily weed out the loyal, long-term people that made them successful is COSTCO- their master plan is to reward and share the wealth with their career employees because they actually believe a humanistic approach is apt to be most beneficial in the long run. Make your exit strategies now before you end up working 3 part time jobs to make ends meet and be able to buy Obama's not so cheap insurance. He who hesitate's is not only lost but also broke and bankrupt....
