I recently told ya'll about a guy I worked in the deli with who had broke into a local school yet didn't get fired from his job. Well when he had to go to an alternative school for awhile he was let go because the store wouldn't give him all day shifts because his classes started in the afternoon/evening. Well a few weeks ago (apparently he is back to regular school now) not only was he hired back, but they put him on the register! He's proved he ain't trustworthy, yet they let him handle money. Well just when I thought we couldn't get any worse, it did.
Another recent hire in the deli mysteriously got a phone call at work that his son was in a wreck and he had to leave. Believable excuse the first time, the second time not so much. After that he used the excuse that his daughter had a temp. of 103 and he had to leave and take her to the hospital. Again believable once, but he used the same reason three times. And another time he had to leave early because he was sick and threw up in the back of the deli, yet none of us heard him vomit and there were several of us in the department at the time. Oh, it gets better. Last week he came into work during the day and got sent home because he was high on something. When he came back to work he cut his finger on a knife because he wasn't paying attention to what he was doing and you could tell he was high. Yet he still has his job.
All this along with all the normal drama in the deli, from people who think they are in charge when management is away to those who think they know it all. Also there is a lot of similar crap going on the front end with all the kids they hire.
So is anyone else noticing a problem at their store? The quality at my store is terrible. Morale is low, kids don't wanna work and management only care about key retailing and que vision number.
I've gotta ask... what's with the drama involving Deli or Bakery? It's like this in my store as well. Hell, many of us call the Deli the "PMS Land". Bakery has their own set of dramas, and often times the Bakery and Deli would be in some intertwined dramafest.
Well KR Man, the behavior you are describing are the classic signs of substance abuse. If the truth be known this person was probably clean enough due to probation testing when they hired in and was able to pass drug screen. I've been around several folks over the past few years that started out okay but eventually slipped back to their old ways. Eventually they will do enough that mgmt. has to take action although if this person has secretly admitted a usage problem to mgmt. and claims they are undergoing treatment then they can come and go as they wish for an indefinite period. What really sucks is the burden they put on the dept. and their co-workers during all this. Mgmt. will turn a deaf ear to any complaints about this person be cause they are very afraid to challenge anyone that says they have a substance abuse problem and are in out patient treatment/counseling. It's hard to do but like many ridiculous situations you'll just have to accept and tolerate it and given enough rope the person will eventually force mgmt's hand but man does it take a while to get to that point. AARRGGHH!
Omg, my store is the same way with the drama. I mostly get along with everyone in my department as well as deli, but it seems like there's always something going on between someone. One of my coworkers got into an argument with a girl in the deli over the dishwasher and I told them both I was staying out of it.
and one day the deli backup flipped out on us over cookies when she should have had her own department to worry about.
Our front end has the same problem with one of our baggers. I mentioned before that this guy likes to use every excuse in the book to get out of work. Well it turns out that he is a woman-beating alcoholic. He came in one day when he was supposed to work and told management he wasn't. Then 45 minutes after his shift was to start he gave management some papers that stated he was gonna go to counseling. Ironically I told our CCS the night before that should he decide to not show up for any reason to give me a call.
