Kroger Policy on Arguments.

Hey, today I was running late for work because I was on orders with my National Guard unit. I called in, and informed my manger that I will be working that day in the morning and I had no idea when we would be done. Well in end we got released around 15:30 and I lived 30 mins away. So I quickly got to my house, changed out and got into my work clothes and got to work. I got there at around 16:55, my shift started at 16:00. I apologized got to work and quickly singed in on the bored, now keep in mind that this week I was given 0 hours for the whole week because of communication. SO I requested hours, and they gave me some free hours that were available.

Well ends come to end I get to work, and when I get there the person I normally work with makes this comment stating "This job is more important then the National Guard, you need to understand that" He goes on insulting and making comments about the national guard. Keep in mind that I love the national guard, it is my everything so in end it rather upset me. He kept at it until we got into the back room, and I full on blew up at him. Keep in mind again that he treats me rather poorly, I.e treats me like I am a idiot. So I blew up at him, and said rather not nice things and he said things right back at me. In end he left, and I got right to work after that. The assistant manger of the whole store walked in and said nothing to the two of us. I worked with her later in the day, and she still said nothing about the situation. Also I did explain what just happens, to her just in case she brings it up.

That was strike one in my books the first arguments I had.

Now strike two goes about 4 hours into my shift. The store is pretty much died down, no one is coming in, I am just waiting for a delivery to arrive. So I go around and start finding customers to help, and bringing up the mood in the store from other co workers who seem a tad down, and or bored. Mostly front end people, they are just standing there with cleaning and doing not much of nothing. They look miserable and I hate seeing people like that. So I go up there and I try to raise the mood, as I am doing this the superviocer approaches me, and makes a comment if I am on the clock. I said yes, and decided I should get back to work. She said a smart comment saying, " you should try working your self, it would help a lot more then you talking around doing nothing all day." That is when I got a little annoyed, and upset again. I have been up and about since 0500 non stop. My mood was awful, so I went off on her telling her that I have been working in the store. She makes comments on my grocery section, and my dairy. Now the thing about dairy is that we HAD NO MILK in there to restock. We only had what was on the self, and some seasonal stuff.  So I made a  comment got upset, and decided to just walk away. Now keep in mind I avoided from using any fowl words in this argument. I then went into dairy moved some milk from one shelf to another and continued on my way. Ensuring bread was good, and etc. That went on until my deliver came I took care of it and left.

Now my question is what is your opion on the policy with Kroger in the two instances. Am I in the wrong, or am I fine. I normally never talk when I am at work, and this isn't typically like me. So if someone could answer this question it would mean a lot thanks.

Just keep yourself busy. Keep to your own department and find something to do. If you have an issue with another employee go talk to your managers. Don't start fights and arguments.

That's my advice.

I do keep my self busy, just hate to see co workers down. Will do, if anything comes up I guess I'll just have to accept it for what it is. Thanks man, gotta accept my own responsibility on this one. Can you refer to me the policy on "disputes" in the work place?

Next time that guy says kroger is more important than Your National Guard job, just say "you're right. My National Guard job IS MORE important." Turn it around on him. He most likely will be PISSED. Don't let it get to you. You were on orders from your CO to do what you needed to be done. That is MORE important than ANY job at Kroger IMO. As for arguments try talking to store management. If they are smart, then they should have National Guard on your file. You did no wrong IMO. Good luck. And keep up the good work.

First off' THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! Now, there's an old expression - "You Can't Argue With An Idiot..." and that saying sure applies in this case. Some people that have been sheltered, coddled in their upbringing have a lot of unhappiness when they have to go out in the adult world where the rubber meets the road. They are idealistic and tend to champion every cause that suits their liking without them really knowing anything good, bad, or ugly about it. IMHO- Everyone in this country should be a patriot-Regardless of their political views' be they liberal, conservative, middle of the road, or anarchist. This same "Idiot" that you had the displeasure of having to work with is obviously watched MSNBC or been taught by some liberal unrealistic people- whether it be dear Mommie and Daddy or some left wing, tenured, political science professor.

Now second, let's suppose your city/town/ village that you and him live in was victim to last Sunday's deadly tornado outbreak in the Midwest... he luckily survives but finds he and his family are trapped and without their basic needs. Well then guess who is the first and biggest help to arrive? Right.... The National Guard! Soft, spoiled liberal idiots like him never learn their lesson until reality hits him upside his head with a 2 x 4 several times. He Knoweth Not What He Talketh About!

Now thirdly, you need to have thicker skin.... maybe junior just wanted somebody to argue with and he knew that he could push your buttons real easy by dissing the Natl. Guard, but anyone that would rank filling milk case, throwing cans on shelves, filling the frozen tator tots is high ranking above a hands govt. service/public protection job for the state is delusional.

In a lot of deals like this , you both get fired regardless of who instigated and who retaliated. The comanager had a duty to get involved but maybe she didn't want to open a can of worms and have to start all the paperwork and contact the talking heads at H.R. Maybe this will blow over and maybe not. She still could do something about it- maybe like many greenhorn co's she will just act helpless and drop it in the manager's lap to fix.

Now Fourthly, WTF is this deal of going around like Gomer Pyle, USMC and trying to cheer everyone up?? Seriously? You want to help elevate the mood then don't engage co-workers who have their right to be left alone so they too can get their work done and get out of there on time to go do something they really want to be doing. Unless you have already became "work friends" with someone they probably don't have the time or the patience for your "Have a Nice DAY!" BS. COMPRENDO AMIGO????

you're fine. actually at least in my contract military service takes precedence over Kroger so even the company knows the priority.

try not to argue. once in a blue moon i get into a silly argument with someone but it's like friends fighting.

if it's someone i'm really mad at, i'll just shut them out.

Oh be quiet, being grateful/proud of someone's military service doesn't have crap to do with political background. There's plenty of democrats who have served in the military, and plenty of conservatives who haven't.

I'm a liberal democrat. I'm also smart enough to realize that National Guard overrides any freaking job at Kroger. My uncle is in the Guard and is also a truck driver. His service to the Guard is always supposed to override the job, even though the company he works for is terrible, they can't fire him because if they even tried it, they'd be in such deep sh*t it's not even funny.

Basically, this guy's coworker is just an ass. Doesn't matter if he's a democrat or a republican, just a plain old ass. lol

My buddy was in National Guard, and Kroger tried to fire him because he flat out told them National Guard IS MORE important than ANY job there. Well, his CO got involved and it was settled. If they fired him there'd be Hell to pay. They backed off real quick.

And secondly, trying to cheer people up if they are down IS a good thing. If work environments are pissy, I'd rather have someone try and cheer me up rather than me go off on a customer or co worket

He just needs to stay in his own department and not wander around. If i have people from other departments in my department talking to my employees I tell them to go.

There is one thing that no amount of training can fix.... and that's stupid.

It's the Law that all employers must, MUST recognize and allow Service personnel to serve when called to Duty whether it's Federal or State-side...Kroger is NOT exempt from this...All you need to say is "I was called to duty and the Law requires you to recognize this service...." Period. End of discussion...If it continues to go beyond that it's harassment, so go to the Union, contact Division HR AND your District Manager...if that doesn't help, go to your Division President...

If you're not sure of the local Corporate contact info, go to www.kroger.com and fill out an online comment/complaint...that will get the attention from Corporate General Office straight on down to your store...
