at my Kroger store I work as a cashier and the front office will not pay attention and try to give us our breaks at a reasonable time and heaven help us if we ask for a break. we get treated like crap if we ask for a break. there is times where we have went almost 4 hour before we finally got a break. are all Kroger stores like this on the frontend?
You gotta ask for your breaks. If they tell you no, then do what needs to be done for a couple minutes then ask again. Eventually, they'll get tired of you asking.
Depends how crappy your CSM and front end supervisors are. They're supposed to give you your break as close to the middle of your shift as possible.
LOL. Like hell. Contract says we can give them any time after the first hour. We give them a time that will minimize disruption to customers. Needs of the business. I'll try to accommodate requests or health needs but if we tell you do go, don't argue, just go. Doing breaks is more art than science. Today I had tried to guess when I could do some big breaks but there were just too many customers. I had to wait another hour. I went on break, dragged my dept head out to run my floor and that ruined my dip free day. It's tough to get good help these days.
There have been even nine hour days I've not gotten a break in so I could take care of the rest of my team. Or I've "taken 5" or 15. Those days may be behind me now. There's just no upside.
Yes my store does this. My supervisor and manager sit around lolly gagging and not paying attention. The other day I worked 6pm-12am and had to come back in the next day at 8am for a 9 hour shift and it took them almost five hours to give me my first break I asked and asked and asked and they gave crap about it telling me to wait because the store was busy and they didn't schedule enough people . not my problem.
"All breaks have been canceled until further notice"
Speak to your union rep about what is allowable for break times.
No one should skip a break ever. I believe Walmart was fined for forcing employees to work thru breaks.
Breaks are defined by Laws in each state. Then, the union contract will dictate the timeliness of breaks.
I do not deal with customers but sometimes wait an extra hour for my first break or take my lunch early so I can unload a truck. Generally, I take breaks every 2 hours if I can. An old timer told me to not skip breaks because, eventually, corporate will write them out of the contract.
Ask them for your break. If they get upset with you for asking, too bad. Ask every 15 minutes if you have to. I have times when that's what I have to do to even get my breaks at all.
our CSMs and FES are notorious for giving breaks late. they seem to think everyone loves to take their breaks late when some of us want them on time. I've taken a break at 2 hr a lunch at 4hr then, after being moved to the front end, not getting my last break until 15mins before leaving. it sucks.

Yep. If you work front end, that's what ya gotta do. The CSM/ACSMs/Supervisors are either gonna be too busy or not care.
