Audio recording at work
Permalink

I just got done working the past few days while feeling under the weather. Just the other day i worked my entire shift where i was coughing up my lung, vomitting, and sneezing. All while working about 10 feet away from my boss, without him once, not once asking if i was ok. After my shift was over and was working into overtime i finally approached my boss, who has been talking **** about employees calling in sick all day. when i told him i really needed to go, he literally completely ignored me, like i wasnt even standing there next to him like an effin child. so i left and went to the hospital and was told i have pneumonia and was given a 2 day doctors note. I turned in the note right away but i know when i get back my hypocritical, rumor starting, gossip girl bosses are going to give me a hard time. I already know my state law reguarding electronic recordings in the workplace but does anyone know any specific kroger policy on it? Thank you.

I haven't heard anything about it. Just respect state and federal laws.

I don't see why you still work at your location if you feel so threatened. Usually if you have a doctor's note, they'll let you go home. I don't think you should be touching other people's food if you're ill, and if corporate rolled in while you were coughing a lot, they would probably get mad at your department head.

Are you complaining because your boss didn't give you attention for being sick.. Or complaining about something may or may not happen in the future?

"hypocritical, rumor starting, gossip girl bosses" How is it any different than what you've just accomplished?

Do not record anyone at work without their consent. It's not a good idea and may result in your termination.

If I saw a fellow employee coughing, vomiting, and sneezing I would leave before they did! I think its pitiful when someone even comes into work and exposes that crap to their team mates. Thats how this funk gets spread across the city because people bring it into public places and schools. Parents have to go to work so they send their kids into school anyways. But having a choice to take it into work is showing no respect for your fellow employees. STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK!

I say that you should go ahead if it is okay in you state.   I do it all of the time just in case someone wants to verbally harass me.  I posted awhile back over a year ago about a Hispanic floor guy that started yelling at me in Spanish, and want to pick a fight and I got it on audio tape and played it to the store manager and he said that he would take care of it, and he did! The Hispanic guy has been long gone, and I haven't had any problems with the new one.

If you live in a one-party state concerning recording laws, then you cannot be arrested for wiretapping. However, your manager could possibly declare that you are using a personal electronic device on company time and use that as an excuse to take disciplinary action against you.

Forget what the KR policy is- there isn't one. With KR work comes first health second or third.... If you want to do the right, moral thing- call your local Board of Health and inform them that mgmt. is ignoring sick, infectious employees - demanding they work due to the almighty needs of the business. Nowadays all companies have to have a policy regarding sick and contagious employees who work around consumer foods/goods- if mr/mrs supreme Kr mgr wants to butt heads with the Board of Health then the local  news media  might be very interested in this urgent food safety issue. Plus then all of a sudden Kroger HR will also become involved. DO IT!
