Ganging up on someone :(
Permalink

The last few days, i feel like half of my department is ganging up on one of my coworkers.

There was a little bit of a disagreement and a misunderstanding between two coworkers about scheduling. One of them, "A", is mad at "B" because of bumping the schedule without her permission. I talked to "C" about that, who agreed with me that "B" never set out to purposely do anything to offend "A". But "A" insists that she won't talk to "B" anymore. Which to me is extremely petty and immature.

Well apparently, our manager is involved now too by thinking that "B" needs to be the one to apologize and that she's all in the wrong and blah blah. And the last coworker doesn't even want to get involved with it, which really, I don't either, but I think it's sad that no one wants to stand up for "B". I won't even see her until next week now and by then I probably won't even want to bring it all up, but it just really made me sad :(

I think I agree with the manager on this one. Really how can you try to secretly bump someone on the schedule without offending them in the slightest bit?

It is not personal, it is business.  "A" needs to suck it up and get over it.

By bumping the schedule, I am assuming "B" has more senority and forced a schedule change based on senority?

The department manager should not get involved.  He should never take sides or play favorites.  He makes it sound like he has a thing for "A".

Forgot to mention.  Bumping a person is a Union thing.  "B" has the right to enforce the agreement.

I don't usually agree with the idea of bumping. I think it's kind of a dick move but at the same time, the union allows it, so to gang up on a coworker is just wrong.

We're talking about all females here btw, but I will say that person "A" is definitely a favorite of our manager.

It is a union contract thing.

If you have more senority than someone else and they are scheduled more hours or earlier shifts, you can "bump" them.  Meaning, take the extra hours away from them or take the earlier shift from them.  I suppose days off works the same way.
