a coworker told me that there are divisions/zones where the people with the most seniority store-wide are able to take dept manager jobs (I assume when they become availiable) regardless of experience. This means that Agnes who's worked in the deli for 45 years could suddenly decide she wants to be the grocery manager (more pay) and she might actually get the job even though she's 75 years old and can't lift a case of soda. Is this true?
No you have to be able to do the job. Your co-worker doesn't sound very intelligent. I would say back, well I'm glad that doesn't happen here, we need Agnes, she's does a great job in the Deli.

My contract basically says that the for the top candidates, if experience and ability are reasonably equal, only then will seniority take preference. I took my position over several more senior employees because I was the better choice.
