ok I work in a dept that only gets 120 hrs or less ,sometimes 125-130 a week. We have 3 full time employees and no part timers. Not even a backup if someone calls in. So management gives us an inexperienced person to train in 8 hrs or less for vacations. Yet we must get the job done without o.t. A person could go postal!
That is why you need to get to know your younger coworkers so you know who you can train quick and will learn fast. Then, you can have a regular back-up that you trust. Trust and compliments go a lot further than making big bucks sometimes.
Store managers call this "chasing our tails". All departments at all stores are doing this right now.
I am a part timer and like the challenge. It is like a video game to me. I know what needs to be done and what can be put on the back burner. I like to try and get an impossible amount of work done in a short amount of time. BZZZT, time is up!
Filling holes is like reverse whack a mole.
My 2 senior full timers don't like to hussle. My 5 less senior part time coworkers are only running at 50-70% of expectations. Two of them are running at 25% of expectations. I do not think the 2 are going to make it.
Tonight, my department is expected to do 38 hours of work with only 4 people working a total of 25 hours per the daily planner. I know it is impossible but our store managers are expecting the work to get done. Tonight is my day off and I know 16 hours of the work will still be there when I go back tomorrow night.
No one will want to stay overtime to get the work done.
I know I have tried that for my department, but the management always says no to me grabbing baggers and such for my department. Instead they keep hiring idiot kids with NO grocery experience. Try it, if you can get away with it. I would!
