eschedule has been giving seniority to those folks who once (in the past) held a dept head position (over other --non dept head--employees who have worked at the company longer).  I found out today that this practice is WRONG.  People with more seniority (based on hire date) are being screwed out of days off because these people who once held a dept head position are being treated differently.  While they might be given 40 hours over someone else, they DO NOT HAVE SENIORITY.  someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but this is what my union rep told me.  In our division we have Regular time and part time employees (I think that's what he told me).  Just a heads up, if you feel like you're getting screwed bc of eschedule, you may have a valid complaint.  the reason I brought this up to my rep is because employees in my dept who once held a lead position (but no longer do) were granted requested days over me...and I have seniority based on hire date

E schedule schedules based on seniority. If they aren't dept. heads anymore then they won't be scheduled over you if you have more seniority. I guarantee you that it's the schedule writer who is favoring employees, not E schedule.

I wouldn't be able to make such a guarantee, because, there is a glitch in e-schedule where it doesn't allow people to be put farther down on the seniority list. I don't know if this is the case for OP's store, but, the easiest remedy is to just let the schedule writer fix it or use your power to bump schedules. So, in reality, it isn't that big of a deal. HOWEVER, it's a whole 'nother ball game if you try to bump and your schedule writer won't let you. In this case, write a complaint and give it to management, then file a grievance. If you have a good union, your rep may be able to get you free pay for breech of contract.

Either become a DH or accept the fact that you'll probably be scheduled part time now.

Oh, and, question I forgot to ask OP:

Are you part-time? Are they full-time? Are all of you full-time? I ask because, at least in my contract, full-timers always have seniority over part-timers. If you are all full-timers though, then yeah, start filing grievances if they won't allow you to bump.

according to my rep (and I put this in my original post) we aren't "part time & full time" we are "part time <30 hours and regular time >30 hours"   if I recall him correctly.  I fall into the latter.

the excuse my store had given me was that because these other guys were once department heads, they are guaranteed 40 hours.  Well my rep told me that is also false.

100% correct. Op's main issue seems to have been requested days off. These are approved or denied directly by the schedule writer themselves and not by eschedule.

I don't know about this supposed bug, but I do know that there are flags such as "Manager" and "JobLead" that bump employees up to the top of the printed schedules but do not affect their actual or scheduled seniority.

you are correct, the issue was requested days off.  I was forced to work because "I had less seniority" than a coworker who at one time was a department head but had been stepped down and his hire date is after mine.

You got screwed then. Talk to management, if they won't help you then talk to your union rep.

eschedule is nothing more then a program,  that someone else tells it what to do.  true it will write out a schedule and give times to employee's and what not.  but as far as requesting time off that is up to the department head to still give.  so if you not getting days off you requested and other below you are it is your department or the person who still does the schedule for your department.

thanks,  after a talk with my dept head and the union rep, this was made clear.  I have seniority and should get the requested days in the future.  If not, I will file a grievance...and win
