I started with Kroger in August 2002 as a 21 year old kid who didn't have a care in the world. It was fine for years as my responsibilities were few and the pay gradually increased. Got married in 09' and things were going fine up until March 2012 when I had to take a medical leave of absence on account of being diagnosed with leukemia. Anyway long story short I started back in May 2013 but because I was going through a divorce I had to relocate to a different store and come to find out after transferring that it was under a country contract so my pay was cut. So understand my frustration that after 11 years with the company my pay has gone backwards and I am making less per hour than I did in 2008. It's hard to get motivated by that.
Best advice I can offer you is to apply at a Costco if you have any in your area. They start at 11-12$ an hr. for entry level work. Since you have 11 years experience you would most likely get more. You move up very quickly within Costco also.

Thanks, I've actually heard that about Costco before. There is one like 70 miles away but I can make the move. I have actually put in for some department head and backup jobs when posted in the back, nothing so far. I even submitted a resume for store management and got a call for an interview to be an associate manager but what I learned was associate managers made the same hourly rate that I made before transferring to a country store so for all that added responsibility and no extra compensation-no thanks. It's just for the time I have spent there to go backwards in pay is just insane. Kroger really need to get their priorities straight.
Oh yeah and what benefit is the union to us? I mean having a union would seemingly ensure this sort of thing would never happen right? I have never asked the union for anything but maybe now is a good time to start.

If you can't get anything at Costco, then I'd say just take the associate manager position and pray that you get a year-end bonus.
There has to be a solution. I honestly want to know what the union does for us. They are there to protect our rights and help us right? Well how is going backwards in pay and making less than I did 5 years ago helping me in any way?
