Do not post any information that will reveal who you are. This site is not sponsored by kroger.
Some posters are negative, some are helpful and others are trolls.
What state are you in?
I have worked as a night stocker for over 6 years and like it. Eventually, I plan to be a grocery department manager.
The work is very fast paced. What department did they hire you for? Dry grocery, dairy or frozen. We only stock dry grocery at night currently. Dairy and frozen are supposed to be stocked at night too but that hasn't happenned yet...
he didn't say. so i guess ill find out more during orientation or my first day on the job. yeah my bro say it fast paced and (at first for him) physically demanding. he works at office max as stocker, sales floor and cashier. so im guessing that at a 24hr grocery store it will be 5x that. will l be shuffled around to stuff like cashier and/or baging or will just do on.s. stock? im in georgia.
My store in Michigan is closed overnight from 12am to 6am.
It is physically demanding at first. If you can handle the first 30 days, you will be able to handle the rest of the work.
Overnight stockers basically put stock on shelves and condition the store. The day clerks get called up front to run registers all the time.
I think some stores have a few people conditioning the store and other people running stock off of pallets. Each store does the work differently but with the same goals...fill the shelves.
Go in to learn. Try not to be a smart ass. Do your best. Post back after your first day. Maybe I or other posters can give you some pointers. It is not the most glamorous or best paying job but I enjoy it. It is also better than being on the street with nothing. Go in with the goal to be a department manager but don't say too much about it to your coworkers. The only way to really make money as a grocery clerk is to be a department manager. If you are in school, make that your priority instead.
My store in Michigan is closed overnight from 12am to 6am.
PS. The goal is to have as many part timers as possible and only schedule them for 28 hours a week. I always volunteer for the extra hours when needed. Your managers might be working hard at keeping your hours to the minimum.
I just checked my Eschedule online and have 28.5 hours for next week! I laff at this after working 40++ hours for the last year and a half. Last week I was scheduled for 29 hours but will finish the week with a lot more hours than that.
Just a heads up, man. Since it's your first job and all you should know that you're going to want to quit after your first week. I mean REALLLLLY want to quit. Give it 2 months. If you still hate it, then quit. A lot of new hires at my store only last about a week. Give yourself time to get used to it, then decide if you want to stay.

I thought people were joking when they said working for Kroger sucks...
On my 4th week as a night stocker myself. Havent been able to get more that 24.5 hours yet a week. Thats staying over usually more than once a week. Usually scheduled 12mid - 6-7 am but have left at 8am several days.
So plan on a day job if you want a full 40 pay. I'm looking now for some part time on days off.
