QUIT PLAYING!!

First management needs to QUIT playing with MY schedule! It's freaking annoying!! I can't get my work done when they want, due to them playing with the schedule! I understand the whole "needs if the business" crap they feed you. But i have my work schedule organized to fit what I NEED to get done. Like Mondays are my "cleaning up after lazy ass backups and doing what they didn't do. Tuesdays are my "inventory and order days."etc. With management playing with the schedule it throwa everything off. Like this Monday, I am a courtesy clerk (slave, everyine's pet bitch) so there goes my work list for Monday. And who hears about it? Me! They schedule me short shift on busy days, and long hours on short days!

can they not just leave the damn schedule alone?!? I have to change everything around because the schedule will NOT be left alone. How am I supposed to get MY stuff done when it's supposed to be?!?

also, not all courtesy clerks are slaves, everyone's bitch. Just seems like that at my store.

The problem is you care too much.....or, at least, that's what my normal response would be. After seeing all your posts though, I'd have to say your management hates you. The only thing you can really do is what you're told.

I do care too much. I ALWAYS help out when they are in a jam. Maybe I should let them figure it out themselves for once rather than be "Dudley Do Right" and help them out.

THIS.  The culture of my store has changed especially in the past year.  There's been no upside, not even a thank you, when I've stepped in to help out.  Time and again I see I'm actually disadvantaged as soon as the next week's schedule comes.

All stores have their eras..you just gotta enjoy the good when it's good and try to look for the positives (like not being unemployed or doing a job you cannot stand) when the bad eras happen.

Try to forget about what the company is doing or upper management (unless of course you're in lower management), it will make your job and days a lot more stress free.

Trust me, this is coming from a return associate who used to care too much like the OP and burned myself out after a few years. Keep out of the drama as much as possible and focus on your job and you'll make it for the long haul in Kroger!

Even though i have been working at Kroger a few months. I have already seen drama with various workers, departments, etc. As this person has stated i too have learned to do what i need in my department  and not let the rest of that drama/mess get to you.

Speaking of drama....

...it seems like there's some sort of conflict between members of management. During my last shift the grocery manager was being yelled at by a pissed-off co-manager about some (former) employee. Not going to give out details, but they could be heard quite a few aisles away. The co-manager was going to be scolded by some other member of management because of something the grocery manager [failed] to do.

Yeah.. us lowly clerks that were either stocking or go-backs were just bewildered and somewhat in disbelief that they'd do that in the middle of the sales floor.

Technically if management wants to bitch out an employee, it MUST be behind CLOSED doors out of public earshot and those who do not need to be in the know. And EVEN THEN they MUST be professional about it.

You will never stop caring, but you may need to realize you are only one person working your assigned shift, and there are some things you can not control. Regardless how much you care. Do your job, and the responsibility is on management if the quality of store conditions, and service deteriorates. Retail food is a tough job, and we are on the front line. Kroger needs to remember that A&P was the largest food retailer at one time, and they did not listen to their employees that cared. As employees we believe in Customer First, management at our store believes in looking good on paper first. There is very little you can do about that, just do your best for the customer, and Kroger's success. My biggest concern is all the food that is trashed that never was even given a chance to be sold, but management can hide that. Grow some alligator skin, and do your best for the customer. Good luck, and be true to yourself regarding caring.

I know of a Head cake decorator that only gets 25 hrs a week and is expected to fill the tables and the bunker and also work the deli, She does her job to the best of the hours they give and still management wont support her by telling everyone leave her alone so she can do orders sheet cakes and cupcakes, she also works at Dunkin Donuts and makes 9.50 and hour 2 more dollars than she makes now. She gets yelled at by the Delta regional Deli/Bakery manager the store manager and the department head who is worthless, I myself just quit store 625 as the Asst Chef and now run my own deli in a gas station for 8.00 and hour and raises will come due to hard work, as the manger said the harder you work the more raises I'll get and I'm guaranteed 32 hours a week versus the Kroger hours of 18 one week 26 the next week 18 the next week You get the idea. Oh how Sweet it is.
