I live in the NC area and we just got a few inches of snow and the roads are crazy dangerous. I've been working for Kroger for 7 months and this will be my first time calling out. I am also a minor so would I be in any trouble?
Calling out means that whether they say yes or no (which they don't have the right to), you won't be showing up. After all, that's what you're calling them for. The fact that they should know that the conditions outside just flat out suck, plus knowing that you're a minor, there's no reason for them to throw a fit. Besides, they can't write you up for not showing if you've called them already. Though, make sure that they understand that you won't be showing up.
Now, if your management team has any competency in them, they'll just say "oh ok, seeya next time".
If your management team is made up of third-rate clowns, the worst they could do is not like you.
I've called in twice before and I've also been with the company for 7 months. The first call was me asking to come in later in the day since I needed some paperwork done at my college. The second time I called was because of the winter storm we had here in December.
