Night Crew & E Schedule
Permalink

Ever since my store opened (well before I started) the night crew always had 1 or 2 people at 8p, 1 person at 9p, and the rest at 10p.  That's how it's always been. Ever since E-schedule, the schedule always says 12a but the night crew gets overrides to start at 8, 9, and 10. Starting next week, management is saying night crew HAS to come in when the schedule says, which means anywhere between 12a and 4a. Everyone on night stock is having a fit because their shifts are all getting moved. Some people are angry because they drive kids to school etc in the morning and cannot be leaving at 830am.

I was just just curious if anyone else's store just overrides the nightcrew, or how their scheduling is done.

I think it's kind of stupid because third shift is generally known to be 10p-630a and it's just messing with morale and making people angry when they've been starting at 8, 9, or 10 for 15-20 years. Management just says "I don't care, deal with it."

Thank my night manager for the attention drawn to this subject.  He was trying to come in at 10pm even tho the schedule said midnight.  He even mentioned that other stores were doing it.   I think HR and the union discussed this and that is what was decided.  He will come in when the schedule says.  End of discussion, period.

There is a slim possibility the time might change to earlier but I am not holding my breath.  It doesn't matter to me.

Here at my store, night stock trickles into the store starting at 9:30. They're normally all accounted for by 10:30-11PM.

Before e-schedule, it's the same.

Perhaps your schedule-writer is just screwing up? E-schedule may have kicked in for us, but people are still coming in their usual shifts (aside from minor, resolvable conflicts).

My store has all night shifts (for stockers) beginning at 10pm and ending at 6am. I can see why your co-workers are pissed.

E schedule does not work for night crew.  15 minute ratings will never be good when the how hole crew takes a lunch at the same time.

why the **** do you need staggered shifts in the middle of the night when the store is closed to the public.

maybe for 24 hour stores....

oh wait all stores under the mother ship aren't the same?

well i know the shifts were kinda staggered just because the person that came in at 8 split the truck so it was ready for everyone at 10, rather than everyone come in and wait around for the pallets to be all situated and sorted out.

Speaking of scheduling, have others here been told they need to work their "scheduled hours" and if they have to change it it must be approved by management. We had a reminder/note in front of where we clock in.

That's how it is over here, pretty much.

Even if it's the department head who writes the schedule, we still had to let the store manager know in advance. But, fortunately, our manager's a decent person who doesn't really strike your request down unless the store would really need you on a certain day (like before storms, big events, etc.).

And yes, scheduled hours must be worked. We're supposed to work out any conflicts or kinks between the time the schedule is posted, and Saturday afternoon. Deviating from the written schedule beyond that time period will be subject to the manager's and/or department head's approval.
