So it looks like I'm going to file a grievance. What do you guys and gals think?

Well today I get called upstairs and wrote up because I've missed so many days since the start of February.  Between then and today I think has been a total of six days, with five because of illness ( I came down with the damn flu twice!) and the other because of weather.  The co-manager stated to me that no employee is allowed to miss more than two out of any thirty one day period even with a doctors excuse.

So I asked the co-manager "so am I supposed to come to work sick?"  He just said we all have to come to work.  Later when one of our older customers who use to work for Kroger came by, I asked him about and he said file a grievance.  What do ya'll think?  I mean I work in the damn deli and have had the flu TWICE since February and don't think I should've been around food!

Anyway I'm calling the Union tomorrow.  Our shop steward is completely useless.

Well, that doesn't make any sense at all since you usually don't need a doctor's note unless you're off three days in a row.  Ask him or her to show you where it says that in the employee handbook

I always thought if you're sick you should stay home. I mean you're working in a department where you're handling food even more than what some people would.

The old timers had better contracts and the union had more backbone.

I would call the union and see if the write-up can be dropped.

I know at our store, courtesy clerks get sent home for having pink eye.

I do not think even a doctors' note is accepted here.

Good luck with it.

A couple months ago one of my co-workers called in two days in a row and got written up. The very next week another co-worker who just happened to be a dept. head, called in 5 days in a row and followed that with a personal day.No doctor's note, no write up. Complete bull.

I sure as hell don't like the idea of a deli worker with the flu handing my potential product.

As a new hire, I can say that the policy that you state sounds like it really stinks.

I agree with others, check the handbook, double-check the steward. Gotta be something in there that will help you out.

where im from if you miss more than one day in a row due to illness it only counts as one instance against you

not sure how many days in a row you can miss before you need a note

call your union and check with them

I'm from Oregon and state law (or health code ) states if u have a fever, diarrhea, or are throwing up u are NOT suppose to go to work especially in the de6li. I work in the deli as well and was told that if u have a fever u have to stay out of work fir 24 hrs after your fever breaks! By the health inspector. I'd file if I were u

next time you get sick(and have been to doctor) and your manager says you have to come to work, ask them to put it in writing that they know you have been diagnosed ill and still requiring your attendance. Then at work have an accident, or get hurt, and you own them..

Managers will not sign a note like that.  I can't get them to sign something less than that request.
