Why do so many new hires think they should start out at full time and top pay rate. I am one of those old timers(31 years and counting) that everyone says is wasting space at Kroger. Back when I started people understood that when you got a job you started at the bottom and were expected to prove yourself. I am now 52 years old and can still throw almost twice as many cases as guys half my age. After only three months, you have hardly begun to pay your dues.

How do they expect someone to live on half of a full weeks pay which is tough to live on anyways?
Thank Barack Obama for this. Very unlikely you'll get 28+ hours now because of Obamacare. You have three options:
1. Get a second job. Limit your availability to something like 4 days, apply for a second job and limit your availability there to 3 days. You could also work 3rds at Kroger and work daytime somewhere else, but this will take a serious toll on your health and sanity.
2. Go back to college or trade school. Either one will unlock more opportunities to you, and you might qualify for financial aid.
3. Wait. That's right, wait. You can spend five years of your life working at Kroger, get a Department Head position, and then you'll be guaranteed 40 hours or even a salary. However, this is probably the worst option of all because you will learn the least, earn the least, and get the least opportunities out of these 3 options. If you work 2 jobs totalling 50 hours a week, at least you'll be getting some decent money. If you go back to college and have to invest money in education, at least you will be more marketable. However if you stay at Kroger as your sole job, do not get an education, and wait for a lucky position, Kroger will become your life. And you don't want that to happen.

. Just out of curiosity, were you hired as part time help? Did anyone tell you in your interview that you would be able to become after 3 months. Did management tell you how much your starting pay would be? I can't tell you how many people I have heard say they could make more money at McDonald's. I just ask them why they aren't working there. Life is what you make it. If you agree to take a job at a certain wage and a certain amount of hours, don't be all shook up and upset when that is what you get.
