stealing time ?

My supervisor wrote me up for stealing time, she said i didn't finish enough work on my shift. Stealing time really c'mon man. Is that even possible to steal something that is not possible to put in your pocket or purse or has no monetary value ?

Except it does have monetary value... Time=money at the rate of your total hourly compensation. And if you weren't doing your assigned tasks, yes, that can be said to be stealing time, and therefore, money.

So that is kind of a stretch isn't it ? She should of wrote me up for not doing my job right not stealing. I mean at some point in time everybody is stealing time. I'm curious also is every Kroger employee required to do the same amount of work in the same amount of time? Also can you tell me where they cover that in the handbook i looked couldn't find that section on " stealing time" didn't see it in the collective bargaining agreement either.H9X

"Stealing time" is basically just not working for at least one pay interval (15 minutes). You can definitely be written up for it everywhere.

So everybody who takes a smoke break at my store or goes to the restroom without clocking out is guilty of this then huh ?interesting concept since nobody clocks out to do either one at my store.

Yes (restroom use is exempted in most/all divisions). It's the company's executives' decision to enforce the ideology that any time spent by the employee not working is stolen from the employer.

I think pretty much every company has this kind of thing in their employee contracts just so they can use it to dismiss an employee, but none of them actually enforce it because they feel that their employees are humans and not useless mother****ing sacks of flesh that can be spent and discarded

What department?

What tasks did you not do fast enough?

My department manager is always trying to throw everyone under the bus to deflect attention to lack of work on his part.  I keep track of what I do and was able to show I was doing more than the computer expects from me.  I would not answer what the department manager is doing during the shift.

Basically, he was saying that the part timers do not do enough work.

He tried it recently and got burned worse than 9 months ago.

Just to clarify my stand on this topic i find the phrase " stealing time"  a slanderous insinuation. It is insinuating that i committed the crime of stealing or theft. A crime is an unlawful act it is not against the law to not finish my job tasks in a timely manner, now it is not good for the longevity of my employment. But i committed no crime so to ACCUSE me of" stealing time" is slanderous and simply untrue, i was simply to slow in completing my tasks. So i think the basis of this write up is wrong and written incorrectly.

"Stealing time" would be the act of not working at all (playing with smartphone, spending a lot of time talking to friends/co-workers about non-work stuff, hiding in the break room, leaving the building while clocked in, etc.); finishing tasks at a brisk enough speed is a totally separate issue. Not stealing time. Period. If you were working the whole time but just not fast enough, your write-up is bogus.

You can't be written up for being slow or being unable to finish everything that's given to you. The things you have to manage/get completed in any given shift are far too numerous to even be totally completed.

I'd get the union involved.

Actually you did steal something! You stole the pay you didn't earn by not working productively.

Is stuff getting done or isn't it.  That's the key.  Are you on your cell phone all the time, getting personal calls at work or what, skiving off, lounging around looking bored or what?

Some of my baggers make me crazy.  They'll pull carts from overflow and put them in store to make it look like they're clearing the lot when they're not.  Some will volunteer to go to the lot so they can use their cell phones.  Cashiers will text between orders.  We have a uscan attendant on his last leg for texting any time there's even a single open robot because he's bored.  Some cashiers and baggers will disappear to the restroom frequently even if they've just returned from break.  It's always the same people.

If you honesty was working and getting tasks done as assigned then why would you sign the write up? I NEVER, EVER sign ANY write up that I know for a fact I didn't do. If you are bring honest, then try and get it revoked.

As I said before, this is not an argument. "Stealing pay" only happens when you are on the clock and doing nothing related to work. It is very presumptuous of this poster for making this association.

My dept. head is on the phone ALL THE TIME.

Not that I want her to get fired but still. it seems like some people get away with it easier than others.

Lol you can be written up or fired for anything at anytime it's just a matter of who you know, who you blow, who are you realted to or off you pissed someone off. Call the union they'll call your boss and ask if you're worth saving lol it's all a game of politics. Most union employees worked in the stores and know pretty much all the store managers.

What Department do you work in?  What tasks did you not finish.  You being cagey about details makes me think the manager had a good reason to write you up.

We had a gentleman working with our crew for a while.  I timed him one night.  It took him 3 hours to finish a 20-30 minute task.  I think he got a clue and realized he was not upto the physical demands of the job and he quit to work elsewhere.

Yes, and what one store considers a big deal another might not. Seems like this forum is mostly based on stories from bad stores/bad management styles.

This is not true in all departments. If you're alone in the dairy on a Sunday, then yes that is ridiculous. But a typical day grocery employee should be able to finish their Peyton load and knock out some backstock.

lol, Not true at our store.  Peyton is normally around 500 cases.  2 hours to break it down and put on Lcarts.  60 cases an hour will take 8+ hours to run.  That is 10 hours.  Customers asking questions and always wanting product where you are trying to work.  That adds another hour.  13 hours to finish truck!  Not to mention most part timers are scheduled 4 to 6 hours.  And, they will be called up front to run registers or bag when Que Vision demands...

Nope, not true at our store.  :)

I'd just like to ask the question are you running grocery only when you do Peytons? If you are then it is totally manageable in an 8 hour shift. If for some reason you have to do grocery, gm, and organic Peytons, then I could understand it being too much work for a solo employee. But one dept's Peyton's should take like 4 hours at most. 3 hours if you don't give a **** about rotating, but that is crucial to saving shrink.

Yes.  When breaking down the truck, I sort out Deli, Bakery and Nutrition.  12 aisles on 4 pallets.

The GM department sorts the totes.

The DDP gives 8-10 hours to run Peyton and that doesn't include sorting.  The pallets weigh about 2000#s and are not aisle friendly to run off of pallets.

These are by aisle with the main product in each aisle:

Garbage bags is about 50 cases.  Catfood is about 30 cases.  Soap is about 45 cases.  Tea gallons is about 25 cases.  Popcorn is about 50 cases.  PB & Jelly is about 50 cases.  Tea bags, baking aisle is about 100 cases.  Dry spaghetti, hot sauce, salad dressing is about 160 cases.  Canned fruit & veggies is about 70 cases.

I have worked an 8 hour shift running the other 900 case grocery truck and conditioning the store.  Then, volunteered to run Peyton that has been sitting around for a few days.  My coworkers are 8 and skate workers. I can crank thru 60-80 cases an hour as long as customers don't interrupt me.

Sometimes Peyton's is 6 pallets, sometimes it's 16-pallet monster. NEVER isle friendly or department friendly. Oh, and stop working that and fill water again... Oh, and somewhere in those 16 pallets there should be some Kroger croutons, dig them out for us real quick and stock them.... and, the frozen truck's here, gotta stop and unload that.... and, excuse me, sir, which way is this product no one's ever heard of for my recipe from Pinterest.... and you need to make a bale... and package help at the front.... and "Grocery you have a call on line 101, customer waiting"...

Sure, if everything fell into place and you could just work uninterrupted, it would take no time to finish that. But that's not how it works.

I was asked how long it took to do a buggy full or dislocated. My response was "about 2 hours" My boss didn't like that answer. I followed up with "I could always do a piss poor job and get it done in 30mins. which of those options would you rather I do?"

so very true. We usually get 500-800 cases. A "small" load is 150-200 cases. EVEN THEN it can AND WILL take forever to unload, break down, and offstack to put onto dollies so we can put it out. Add helping customers, stopping to help up front when they call etc. and believe me, when they call you dman well better "drop" your product and RUN, NOT walk up front to help front end.
