DSD responsibilities?

I'm wondering what the dsd clerks in other stores do on a daily basis. We have 2 dsd clerks most days, but we work & order all the bread, snacks & cookies, plus work all the beer & wine.

My reason for asking is with this new escheduling, we are not being given enough time to cover the dock properly. How can we cover the dock if we are not there? or get our orders worked & written on time?

What state are you in?

We have one grocery clerk that recieves the Vendors at the back door, unloads trucks and marks down damages.  The wine and beer is taken care of by the vendors.  The Day grocery manager does the bread, chips, cookies & crackers and orders them.  On Peyton day, they run the blue totes for grocery.  On occasion, another grocery clerk from Dairy works the bread, chips, cookies & crackers.

Yeah, but $19 isn't that much in socal.  Its the same in Oregon though- DSD=vendors.  We might get something out of the back or fill beer/pop if its on ad.

always love it when cali folks move up here

"omg everything so cheap!"

"omg all these jobs only start at 10 bucks an hour! WTF"

good luck So CAL.. with that expired contract the union sounds like they're looking out for you lol here is what one of the union reps had to say. We still want to hold on to our affordable care, solidify our pensions and maybe get our members a raise.

I hope that anyone in that local is saving up as much money as humanly possible... By the time they hit retirement age, pensions will be an extinct concept.

My pension if I retire today is $2300 a month. Im 56. Add that to early social security of $1700 at age 62 and $800,000 in IRA and 401k, I think I'll be OK. House is paid off. Not married, no kids.

@56 year old: Well you're financially literate. That's rare today. Not just at Kroger, but anywhere in America. A family making $60,000 a year thinks they need to buy a $300,000 house and two $30,000 cars on top of eating out every meal, buying the latest phone, and having cable bills of $100 a month. If people paid their bills in cash today they might realize just how broke they are. Turn on HGTV and newlywed college grads are buying $500,000 houses! Sillyness.

In southern WV we do markdowns and check ins that's about it. There isn't much time for anything else.

Markdowns and check-ins are all you have to do? In my division the DSD clerk doubles as the backroom cleaner. They have to make bales, sweep, stack all empty pallets, put all the dollies up, keep the power jacks charged, and make sure the trash room is presentable (unbelievable huh?). So as you can imagine, few people crave the position unless they really want the money. Be prepared for a lot of chew-outs by mgmt.

Exactly. It scares me how willing people are to spend money they don't have on things they don't need.

Yes, use a credit card to pay off a hospital bill. No, don't use it to buy a 70" TV that will break and/or become obsolete in three years' time.

Oh, our DSD clerk? Hell, we don't have one. Like I've said somewhere before, aside from the grocery manager, there's only ONE grocery clerk working all day until night crew comes in. I don't think he'll have time do any DSD thing. The vendor is the one that does all of the stocking and all of that. They don't have to clean though, that's taken care of either the utility clerk, Grocery manager, or grocery clerk.

I'd gladly make bales and clean the backroom if it kept me off the front end. Just sayin'

I already get chewed out enough by management so that would be nothing new.
