If you get suspended for something (it's a long story), does it have to be for an 8 hour shift or can it be a 4 hour shift?
Because supposedly i'm getting a 1 day suspension but apparently it's not all that serious because it's not even occuring this week. It'll apparently be scheduled like that the following week and just count as a day off for me on the schedule.
So should I basically just expect to work 4 days that week instead of 5? But will I be dropped to like 20 hours or will they just schedule me 24-ish and count a 5 hour shift as the suspension?
They can suspend you and schedule you however they feel like.
You can be suspended for an entire day, and be scheduled for four hours for three days next. You're not promised or guaranteed hours you believe you want and are entitled to, only the minimums required by law and contract.
I was recently suspended and they gave me the choice of either going home and missing the rest of that day or missing my next scheduled shift. I don't see why it would be any different for you...
Changing the subject a little bit but just wondering, how long do write ups and suspensions and stuff stay on your record?
I mean, if you say had the opportunity to become a dept. head or something in the future, a write up/suspension from 2 years ago wouldn't be involved would it?
Generally speaking, those things stay in your file forever. However, most cannot be officially held against you for discipline reasons longer than 90 days. But if any mgr decided to check up on your record, they could view discipline several years old or more.

Write ups: go "away" (lie dormant) in your file for the specified time after being written up. Usually 6 months
suspensions: follow you around your ENTIRE career at that company. They do NOT go away. EVER. : (
