Our contract is up in Oct. Lots of people retiring early, The president of the company retired after only having the job less then a year. Weird things are happening. Opinions please......When is your contract up? Do you think you will go on strike? This is my second contract I will have went through and I have never been on strike. Do they really pay 2/3 of your pay if you are a full-time employee? How many days do you have to stand by the road to a least get a check? Thanks for the answers in advance.
i think my store is about to strike but its got nothing to do with the union and everything to do with how its being run. im pretty sure the union wont give you anything except the possibility of a ridiculously small raise.
OK, let's be very clear on what is or isn't an actual strike.
A strike is when the union local decides that there are differences between their opinion and that of the company that are not being reconciled and they officially tell union members to strike.
However, a group of members deciding to walk out on their own, even if it's all the members in the store, without prior direction from the union office (which doesn't include the shop steward) is not a strike. It's job abandonment and is grounds for immediate termination.

That is why you wait for strike authorization. Quite a few old long time employees decided to 'strike' on their own. Guess what??? Now they don't have to worry about store strikes. Ever.
