Parking a call
Permalink

This is going to sound dumb, but I still can't figure out how to park a call so another department can pick it up. No one has time to show me, so I usually call the department and ask the question.

So which button sequence parks the call?

At my store we have a button that says 'park'. Not kidding. But I'm sure every store has a different phone etc etc. Just ask someone else in customer service how to do it, or ask a department head because they park calls sometimes. Management should definitely know. If they don't "have time" then just transfer every call you get to management and then they'll teach you after getting annoyed.

There should be a button on the righthand side that says, "Park".  There's other buttons there too.  One says, "Page speaker".  Anyway, after pressing "Park", make sure you pay attention to the 3 digit number that is displayed on the little display screen at the top.  That's the number you give when you want someone else to pick up the call.  Then, all that person has to do is pick up any phone and dial that number.

If you press Park but accidentally hang up before looking at the 3 digit number, you'll have re-park it.  To do that pick up the receiver.  Over on the righthand side there's another display screen with buttons next to it.  Every time there's a call on the line a little phone icon will appear on the screen.  There can be multiple icons on the screen.  Each one represents a different call.  So if you park a call but forget the park number pick up the receiver.  There should be two phone icons on the righthand display screen.  The one at the bottom is your parked call.  The other one is the one that came up when you picked up the phone the second time.  Simply press the button next to the line that has the parked call and re-park it.  Make sure you pay attention to the 3 digit number this time.

assuming you're on the newer phone system, if you can't find the 'park' button, you can do the grey Feature button and 74

There was supposed to be a way to get the phone call to redirect but every time i did that it would hang up on me (i think)

So I hit the park button, then hit the page speaker button and say "X department, you have a phone call on 101"

Underneath the small display screen at the top there are three buttons.  When you answer a call, one of the buttons (ours is the far right one) will say transfer above it.  Press that button and then press the department button that you want to transfer the call to, or press transfer and then dial the extension number.  Then hang up.
