Switching Departments
Permalink

I started out in the deli and (this goes without saying) hated it.  Because I'm a good working I quickly got transferred to the Bistro.  I like the Bistro for the most part and enjoy the people I work with.  But Lately I've been thinking of switching to front-end assuming I could get a guaranteed 40 hours there.  It just pisses me of that some 16 year old is making the same amount that I am, when all they have to do is scan or bag groceries.  I feel comfortable saying it's much easier because I was a bagger/cashier for a year 3 years ago.

Is it worth switching?  I just don't wanna deal with the teenage drama associated with the front-end, but it is so much easier for the same pay.

Depends on what you want, really. Some people would like to come in and do nothing for their $7.25/hr or whatever, those people are in the front end. People who want to work and move up the payscale and maybe into management work in other departments or on night crew.

Since you're complaining about having to do work I'm guessing that the front end is just fine for you.

If you're part time, there's no way in hell you'll get 40 hours on the front end.

Cashiering has it's downsides too, they might "just" be a cashier but personally i think it's easier to do a job that has you moving around instead of standing in one place for 8 hours.

CC's do more than just bag groceries too. They have to do all the go- backs, help customers out to their cars, get carts, etc. And baggers don't make the same as you, they get ripped off on their pay scale.
