For a while now a guy with 2 years above me will bump my hrs every time if I have a single hour more than him. I have debts and kids to take careof while he does nothing but play video games and drink. He Iis not a hard worker at all, while in turn ive been told by my head supervisor that just after a single month of being a cashier im as good as the ones who have been there for 10 years. So basically im a much harder worker than him. Is there anything I can do at all??
All your manager has to do is give you the same amount of hours and he cant bump you. Im a shop steward. Also the manager, if he likes you can underschedule you and then keep you over. Another way is to schedule the other guy the better shifts and less hours than you, and they schedule you the least desireable shifts and more hours, then the most senior guy has to take you whole schedule if he bumps you and then you get his with less hours, then the manager can just add you on by underscheduling.

This. Underscheduling works. Plenty of times when I've racked up almost 30 hours each week while this above me hover around 25, even after bumping each other around.
You need to take your department head and store manager up in the office and shut the door. Let them know what's going on and let them know that you mean it, and have a reasonable solution.

Have you, you know, talked to him about this? Even if you did he probably has $60,000 in student loan debt or something that you don't know about because he hasn't/doesn't want to tell you.
He doesnt go to college. All he does is stay up late and play video games. He lives with his girlfriends parents. He only uses his money on video games drinking and going out with friends. He is 25 years old and will probably never do anything with his life. I just told the store manager that im gonna go to college very soon so hopefully he can make it where I have all the late shifts and decent hours. Ill show him aspiring to do something with my life while this kid has made no moves at all or even had a thought of bettering his life except for hopeing someone quits so he can try for full time. Its pathetic really.

try to talk to them about getting full time, once you become full time they can't schedule for anything less than 36 hours.
i don't think his seniority will matter at that point because he can have more hours than anyone that is part time, but not full time.
but you can't get full time until you average 36 hours for 10 weeks, and that needs to be done but 'staying extra' if your boss is on board, basically you cheat the system...
they have you 'stay longer' and 'call you in' a lot, average 36 hours for 10 weeks, and you are full time.
that's the problem with our union, there is NO insensitive to try. Good employees get stomped out by the sucky ones that don't try. We all get the same low raises and the same crappy treatment.
