Clueless manager and lazy day shift
Permalink

Yesterday I get to work at 3:30. I work in the meat dept. as a closer. I walk in and the F-ing truck hasn't even been broken down yet and that is supposed to be done first thing every morning. With the delivery not broken down obviously the shelves are empty because no one worked anything. I call the manager and complain and he yells at me saying that day shift hasn't gotten their crap done because nights aren't doing what needs to be done and he "Doesn't want to hear it". That's complete bull. What we get done at night is COMPLETELY up to what they get done during the day. Day shift has 5 people and does nothing. We have 2 and have to finish what days left before doing our own stuff. Of course it's not gonna get done if we have to do other people's jobs first. If I didn't have bills that would have been a "F you, I QUIT" moment.

welcome to kroger. this isn't just in your meat dept., it's everywhere! i work in an area where the three day shift people do as little work as possible (also have a dept head and his backup on days too). how do i know? one on of them goes on vacation i work day shift (hiss, hiss, the light, the daylight!) to cover, while those with less seniority than me (only a few folks, there is never enough people for evening, but like five or more for day shift in one dept.) work evening into the night shift (heck, i very often work from morning hrs into the night hrs an i am listed as part time? i get more full time hours on average than not, and get none of the benefits). i have worked the day shift forlike five hours, and got more done in those five than the ft day people do in eight! and when i work with one, they move as snails, and often wander off to take the cardboard to the compactor, or to the bathroom, and never comes back if near end of shift or come back an hr or more later. no lie. i rather work by myself, these people get in the way and make such a mess it's almost impossible to get anything done. there is product that needs refilling all the time, say like the milk, if i work with one of them, they wait and wait, i end up doing it all the time. all the shift i am there. they never touch it. never. but my advice to you is say nothing, management will not help you, and the people you complain about will never be made to do their job or be removed; and you have pissed them off, they will get back at you, your work life will suck. so.. just keep your head down, and do the best you can (basically do your job and their too). like i said, welcome to kroger.
