No Longer A Cashier
Permalink

I transferred to Drug/GM Sunday.  I'm having my doubts about it.  I'm back working nights again and 10 to 15 hours less a week.  The workload is overwhelming. My back is killing me and I ache all over.

I guess the worst that could happen is they put me back as cashier if I can't do the work.  I'm so tired of Kroger.  You finally get some seniority then they just transfer someone from another department with more seniority and they get the hours.  It's impossible to make money with them.

In the last month I've almost just walked out the door four times.  I hate being physically worn out and angry all the time.  This is the worst job I've ever had.

How can they transfer you without your permission?

Oh I asked for it.  I was helping that department over the last few months.  I enjoyed it then.  I worked the day shift, got off early, work was enjoyable.  Then all hell broke loose, sooo much backstock, one employee went on vacation etc.  I will get more hours eventually but I'm not sure about the workload.

I was told key retailing is 5 minutes per tote.  OMG, how in the hell do you open all those little boxes of make-up, put on sticker and security tag, put them on the shelf in five minutes?  I did do one tote in 5 minutes.   I opened the tote, took out the frying pan and the other pan and put them on the shelf.  Wala!  LOL!

I also am learning the RF gun.  If there is one when I get there in the afternoon.  It's just a lot to do and learn and you know Kroger - just throw ya in there and expect you to do it or else!

Can't afford a doctor on Kroger pay.  I have a $600 deductible and the doctor would probably order an MRI which is probably around $1,000.

A $600 deductible? Damn. Must be nice. Mine is $5,000. Why would they order you an MRI for body aches?

I think my deductible is ~$500 but you should only have a co-pay which is like $25-30. If the docter orders some sort of test just pay it off monthly by giving them $10 or so a month. you'll be fine. They can't force you to pay up front.

This.  I've even told them I can't make the copay and that I have a high deductable so I'll be paying the whole thing anyway

Lift with your legs and use your core muscles.  I generally use a piece of cardboard as a pad for my knees as well.

Hahaha, at Kroger pay the best you can do is to get hit by a car in the parking lot and let the EMTs check you out everywhere else after you are admitted to the emergency room.

At Kroger pay I am surprised you can afford band-aids.

Oh wait! We sell those! They are over near the pharmacy section.

Under many contracts they don't have any need for your permission. They can move ~90% or more of the employees in the store around at will.

So only 10% are in deli/meat/bakery/pharmacy, dept heads, and dept assistants? I think 60% would be a better number.

I have BCBS insurance from my husbands job.  I broke my back in 1991 and have had two back surgeries.  Most days I'm ok.  It's just they got so far behind and there is so much to do I have no choice but to do double the workload.  That's the problem.

Noooo... I'd say it's still closer to my original estimate because perishable depts are not exempt. Pretty much the only exempt employees are those in actual positions (heads/backups/leads/coordinators) and of course pharmacy.

The only option is to kill your husband for the life insurance, i guess.

NOTE: JOKING.
