(WMC) - A video of a group of teenagers beating a Kroger employee in the store's parking lot is circulating on Facebook.
A Kroger employee tells WMC Action News 5 that the attack happened at the Kroger near Highland Street and Poplar Avenue.
Accroding to police, three people were jumped by a large group of teenagers who were chanting "fam mob." The group, who came from CiCi's Pizza, reportedly attacked a 25-year-old customer as he left his car to enter Kroger. Two employees, ages 17 and 18, were attacked while trying to stop the fight. Both were "struck several times in the head and face, while being knocked to the ground." The victims say large pumpkins were thrown at their heads. They both eventually were knocked unconscious.
The victims were treated on the scene for their injuries. All three refused to be taken to the hospital. The 17-year-old victim's father said his son is OK and is at home.
The Kroger manager told police the store's surveillance video can only be accessed by "loss prevention" on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Police want to know whether anyone else was approached, harassed, or injured by the teenagers. If so, please contact police at the Tillman Station precinct.

What a load of horses-h-i-t. Here, when we get a suspected shoplifter, police are called and they are up in the store manager's office watching the rewound video as soon as they arrive.
If that particular Kroger really has only that option to access the surveillance video then I think I know where I will go shoplifting for 'free' stuff if I am ever in the mood for a drive.
Dont try to break up a fight. Call security, your manager or 911. Both those employees who jumped in will be out of a job by their next shift.
This didn't look or sound like a fight. From all accounts, it was more of an assault on a civilian. If I saw someone assaulting someone else like that and had an opportunity to stop it - without the potential cost of my life of course - I would try. It's just the decent thing to do.

Your right, it wasn't a fight, but you aint taking on mob without getting thumped, unless you're a star in an action movie. Plus your banged up and likely out of work.
I wouldn't care. I'm not so invested in my job that I'd rather stand by and let another human being get injured (or worse) just because I might lose my job for interfering. **** that noise. I like working here, don't get me wrong, but I have this thing called ethical responsibility.
As for me, sure I'd call for security, but in the meantime I'd step in and ask the mobs to leave them alone. Then, if they attacked me, I'd be acting in self-defense. Pretty sure that would fly here, but I have non-douchy management.
And yeah, security cameras can be accessed. That was a BS statement, especially by the manager who can access the cameras anytime.

Exactly. I don't know how the news media got that particular statement --- probably from the police report ---- but it is a load of crap. If anything else, call your store manager up, get him or her back to the store and let him or her go over it with the police right then and there. When you have people assaulted it is a serious business. Either that store's policy and hardware is ridiculous even by Kroger standards or the manager who told that to police had no idea what he or she was talking about.

Agreed. Management has open access to surveillance videos. Even my Front End supervisor has access to those and uses it to see who's been stealing the caps from his soda bottle.

Yeah, I agree with this. One time these two women came into our store and told us some guy outside was stalking them and that he came inside. We called management to do something about it and the manager told us to walk around with them to make sure they were ok. Uh, no? I'm 5'6'' and can barely lift 15 pounds. If something happened I'd be useless if the guy tried something, and what if he had a gun? Not putting my life on the line for that. I called another manager and they took them over to customer service to take care of the issue.
