Today after working through all the lunchmeat and frozen I saw an opportunity to clean the and soak the tenderizer since a day early Ecolab said it wasn't clean enough. I hear our meat clerk say hey I need 10 pounds of hamburger for our gourmet patties. I say ok you don't know how to use it and I can show you. I get the old just do it, you're not doing anything anyway and they storm off. They come back and I say you ready, I get the old you don't do squat around here. Some time passes and I tell my dept head what happened But was beaten to the punch. I hear just do it just do it. I say they've been here longer than all our new hires combined and our new hires and seafood manager know how to grind but our 25 year clerk who complains about others doesn't. After grinding it I tell our clerk no more eating in the dept. From now on you eat on your break and store your food in your locker. Do you think my actions are reasonable Or If anyone asks me to do something should I just do it, just do it?
A lot of the old timers are able to condition managers to their poor behavior. "Thats what _ does." "At least he showed up." The reality is that most of the old timers like that can't afford to retire, because of healthcare, debt, or an ex would get a chunk of it.
I didn't see my dept head for the last half an hour yesterday so today I asked him. Does (blank) not have to use the grinder. He says It's going to be easier on him if you just do it, yeah it sucks and don't give her a hard time she's going through personal problems. I say If that's what you want but I don't think its right when we teach a new hire how to use it when a 25 year clerk won't use it. Oh well and when I came in our tenderizer was spotless after the soaking I gave it LOL.
