I do feel sorry for you, but as others have said, police don't randomly arrest eight-year-olds. Well...maybe in Texas. Are you in Texas?
Are you in the union? If so, contact your steward or union representative. I am sure that there is some sort of hardship clause somewhere that could apply to your situation>
Family comes first. Kroger should come second. I help care for an elderly relative and while it's sometimes just as if not more stressful than working Front End for Kroger, if something came up I would always put family first. The hell with Kroger, where I barely get approval or thanks for the difficult and hard work that I do. The hell with Kroger, where I am expected to do five things at once, or do the job of two or three people as one person. The hell with Kroger, that schedules me so random that I can barely remember my schedule each day and can end up working 6 - 10 p.m. one day and 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. the next.
Family should always come first. Kroger, with its poor wages, poor management, feelings of corporate, "fat cat" greed and overall "who gives a crap" feeling about the employee, should be second. Although if I am going to be honest I would place them fifth or sixth if not lower.
Back to the point, I do feel empathy for you, but you work for Kroger, and they don't care as much as they should. Best advice I could give is go to the union. They are basically powerless, but they can stir the pot for you. You put family first and that pissed off Kroger. You should get specific reasons WHY you were suspended.
Get it in writing. But don't sign anything EVER. Start from there, if you feel like it's worth it.
If you know you can or if you can find something better, go out there and do it. Since you work for Kroger, and most likely minimum wage for them, you most likely can.

Why would the police tell you to bring your child to the police station. Police don't randomly arrest 8 year olds like others have said. I don't know if this is true or not, whether it's a scare tactic for unruly children (not saying your kid is unruly) etc. Something doesn't seem right.... Jmho

Very true. Although, I kinda of like the rat race to get the work done. It makes the time go by quick. But, I do not have to deal with customers too often. The most agitating part is dealing with my night manager and his laziness. He's constantly saying how slow everyone is. The only thing that works on him is his mouth.
it's true children as young as 5yrs old have been arrested, you can find story like this on you tube, where they was handcuff and arrested check it out.

Sounds about right. Our Front End department suffers greatly for this horse crap, too. Last night we had seven carts of "go-backs". Heading back in in a few hours and I bet every one of them will still be there. Why? Because we courtesy clerks just can't do it. Every damn time I turn around, there are four more people waiting on the register for which I am bagging. If there is a cold go-back, good luck. It's got about a 50% chance of becoming shrink.

We do go-backs as courtesy clerks when management complaints to Front End Supervisors. Generally, as of late, we close down our registers at 10 p.m. -- leaving only the U-scan on the two sides open -- and have cashiers do go-backs. But if we are 'overflowing' or 'overloaded' it's not uncommon at my store for FES to pull one or two CC's out, hopefully when we are not busy, and do go-backs.
Sometimes they call a person in to work just to do go-backs. If it's a cashier, fine. But if they call us courtesy clerks in to "just do go-backs" guess what? At some point, we end up bagging again. Yep. That's why if I get a phone call on my day off to come in for go-backs I will usually tell them 'no'. Sure, I need the hours. But if you call me in for go-backs, I'd damn well better be able to do it without being bothered by bagging. Because if you are calling me in on my day off as a courtesy clerk to do go-backs, I'm assuming it's gotten to the point where it looks ugly and we've got way too many carts filled for returns than we should.
Sadly, our departments don't come up and get them as in some stores. So it's up to us lowly courtesy clerks, or, lately, cashiers after 10 p.m., to do go-backs. If the parking lot is looking okay at around 9 - 10 p.m. sometimes the lone courtesy clerk left will be assigned go-backs for a little while.
Me, I try to grab the large items -- dog food, expanded kitchen items, etc. -- so that at least the whole thing 'looks' better. And I do that in the micro-seconds that we don't have customers waiting in line.

The uscan person, if you mean the person overnight, can't do the returns in a store without security. who is going to watch for people running out with carts full of beer? our night crew will stock new things only, they don't care about returns and will fill carts with stuff they find while filling and conditioning shelves and leave them as go backs because they say they don't have time to put their own stuff back where it belongs.
