In todays episode of "not training didnt show you" that we have this question

For my shift i worked backstock in drug gm. I am told to use the gun which i have done for others things but first in this dept. So i am shown how to get to it on the gun then that person leaves. So after scanning the item basically three things show up

boh

pack

Alloc

Since i am new in this dept i am still learning things. what is boh and is alloc (allocation) means what is on the shelf?

Back to working the backstock it ask me if i need to change it...again is this based what i put on the shelf total to what is already there?

BOH: is balance on hand

Pac: is how many come in a package

Alloc: is how many should be able to fit on the shelf. it's total allocation.

if your boh is greater than your alloc then you have backstock for that item.

You really need someone who will train you right and i feel bad that i can't show you everything i know over the internet :(

Also, ALOC (allowable on shelf) should be a reasonable amount of the item you are stocking; so even though you can fit a few extra (hidden along the top, to the side, etc.), the ALOC should be what you can fit without doing that ;)

You are hired BagBoy!  When can you start night grocery at my store?

Nightperson, I am assuming you are running and scanning backstock for Drug/GM.

In the grocery department, we have been instructed by district managers to only scan what you put back on the backstock cart.  You need to ask the DR/GM manager if they want you to do it that way or to scan everything that you run off of the backstock cart.  A lot of stuff in Dr/Gm has a short shelf life so it is probably better to scan everything.

How many will fit neatly on the shelf is the ALLOC.

How many you count on the shelf and add how many you have left over is the BOH.

A pack is how many come in a case/package.

It will ask if the BOH is correct.  Yes or no?  If no, then it will give you chance to change the BOH to how many you count in the store.

So, if the allocation says 26 but you can only see 22 fit on the shelf, you change the allocation.  Press Function 2, enter. enter, change the ALLOC to 22. Check the Min while there.  It should be 1 case less than the ALLOC,  Function 5.

When you are done running the backstock, press escape, 1, yes, I use 'U', Enter.  The manager might want you to use the other instead of U.  Get print out from office printer.  Anything that you changed will have an asterisk next to it.  Have the manager review it to make sure something isn't sitting in a shipper or on an endcap somewhere.

Before changing BOHs, make sure all trucks that might be on that cart have been recieved in CAO.  It will create oos holes everywhere if what you are scanning has not been added to the computer.

There are a few items in our department that we keep the BOH wrong and high on purpose.  If not, we will have a Uboat full of the item.

I would be happier than a pig in mud if I could run backstock all the time.  Probably my favorite job in the whole store.

I am a GM manager within Kroger. I am sorry that you had little to no training. That would NOT fly in my store. I train all my new people personally so they know the ropes and my standards and Krogers.

BOH=Balance On Hand

Pack=the amount of product that comes in when it's ordered. Mostly 1 or 6 from what I've seen. Most pharmacy items come in sixes.

Alloc=How much of the product fits on the shelf comfortably before capping.

Basically, backstock reviews you take your blue carts and count what is on the blue cart and what is on the shelf. Say you have 8 advils on the shelf, and you find 5 more on the blue cart. You can the advil and it shows the BOH of 16, so 8+5= 13. Your BOH is wrong. You need to change it to 13. Usually when you change an item, you use #8 on the hand held which is data integrity.

I'm sorry you had a terrible trainer.  Hope this helps.

There should also be CBTs available in ACT complete with handheld screens and such that should help.

Yes i was doing backstock in drug gm first for me. Thanks for the advice i am going to save it so i can use it when backstock come around again!

Nyran:

I HOPE then the people at your store trully do KNOW what they are doing if they are "really" trained. Majority of things have been showed to me on the fly. Its a difference of opinion but that has been my opinion of training in kroger it barely exist or your just thrown and then you "deal with the consequences". Thanks for you advice as well!

Short shelf life in GM? Their stuff has the longest shelf lives. Only thing I can think of that would expire within a year is the candy. Most drugs have no *real* expiration. The manufacturers just have to slap a date on it.

 IC.

The Drug/GM manager at my store is very picky about rotating.  I thought it was because of the expire dates.  Maybe she IS just OCD!

it's always suppose to be in first out first but it takes a lot of time and most products have a shielf life of years unless your in produce or deli/bakery.
