So I have a rare day off today. The windows are all open at the house because the weather has been nice. Woke up this morning to the sound of rain around 8, 8:30 a.m.
Made me think about the rain at the store. A few days ago, I went to Wal-Mart, found what looked like a decent rain suit (pants and jacket) for around $20. There are waterproof shoes there going from $20 - $50 or a little higher.
For those whom have been with Kroger long enough to realize that parking lot 'duty' sucks, and have had to retrieve carts while in the rain, how have you handled it? Did you take your meager, measly, low-numbered paycheck and buy your own rain gear with it? Or have you used what Kroger provides? We have $3.99 ponchos. That's it. So unless I have some decent shoes, I am getting wet socks. The ponchos also only go down to about your knees if you are lucky. Which means, you are getting wet. Plus the things are thin and could be marketed as shower curtains in another market or store.
Is it worth taking your own cash and buying rain gear? I'm thinking "yes" but only in the sense that you would be able to have it on hand for yourself after you quit Kroger.
I have a friend who did something similar. He used to work for the front end at our store and bought a really nice rain jacket and gore text lined boots because the Kroger issued gear sucks so badly.
