I don't understand how Krogers gets away with promoting associates, new title, more responsibilities ...with NO PAY increase! Your NOT doing the same job description as when you are hired??? And paying just above minimum wage??? Walmart starts associates $2.00 more. Where is the Union and who are they really protecting??? Krogers also gets benefits from the government for hiring at this wage- Most associates have to depend on the government for aid- food stamps. this should be embarrassing to Krogers! The company that prides itself for taking care of their employees?? So question to everyone- WHY DO YOU STAY?? What keeps you there while living in poverty? Please Union, I would like your comments on this- you get your dues...what are you doing??? I'm thinking of taking this to the public...Walmart got a bad rap this way...If our customers knew- would they shop with us??

It all depends on the union contract.  Which position are you talking about?

Why do I stay at Kroger?  Part time job, can work any hours I want and change my availability or days off as I choose.  I make some extra cash to pay down some bills so my husband can retire in 2 years. I also like the extra income to buy antique motorcycles with.  And the parts they require.  I will wait until I'm at $11 an hour in 2 years then cut my hours back even more and make the same I make now. I don't live in poverty, my husband makes over 100 grand a year.

As far as customers go I don't think they care that much about what we make an hour.  They just want to buy their groceries and go home.  I see alot of my regular customers when I shop at Walmart.  They shop around like I do.

Front End Supervisor dedicated and trying to get into management. I love my job and I really like Krogers! Looking for a career change, I CHOSE to pursue the Supermarket Field and Krogers. I'm in my 50's - recently divorced and I took on this challenge to start at the bottom. I'm working 40 hrs and need to provide for myself. I have 8 months under my belt, don't mind struggling if I get where I want to, but...for how long? I'm working on getting certified but how much does that get you?

Work any hours you want?

Kroger schedules me today from 1:45 - 7:00 p.m.
Tomorrow is 3:15 - 8:00, then 4:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Kroger's scheduling feels like someone just pulling times out of a hat or throwing darts at a board.
The hell kind of company works like this and stays in business? Oh yea. Kroger.

Changing availability is fine too.

But good luck getting it all.
Better make sure you do it far enough in advance.
And that the person approving it likes you or is competent in his or her job.

The extra income

Okay, sure. What department do you work in, how long have you been there?
As a courtesy clerk I made a wonderful $112 this last paycheck after taxes and union.
And that came with about 20 hours for a work week.

Of course you can buy that antique motorcycle.
How's June of 2015 sound?
Better make sure the seller is flexible.

Because I am guaranteed full time, I have affordable insurance, and I receive a fair amount of vacation time and personal time off.

I don't know what I will buy in June 2015.  But, I just bought a nice little 69 Harley Aermacchi, got a great price - $300.  It will sell for around $4000 if I choose to sell it. I will pull the fenders, gas tank and headlight and have it painted back to the original blue.  That's a couple of paychecks. We buy and restore them ourselves.  Haven't actually sold one yet though, I like them too much lol!  It's alot of work and research but it's a fun hobby.

I've been with Kroger 3 years.  I work as a cashier, floral dept. and Drug/GM.  My availability now is 6 am to 7:30 pm but I'm usually scheduled 10 - 6 most weeks.  I'm 4th in seniority at my store. As far as getting my availability approved that doesn't happen.  I change it and it's done.  I mean, if I say I can't work certain hours then by golly I can't work those hours!!  What are they going to do?  I'm a level 2 clerk, they don't get to have my whole day like they do managers and dept. heads.  Sorry Kroger. They have never complained, they know if they need me at another time all they have to do is ask.

There are some employees who are just spoiled for various reasons and can get what they want, and usually the ones that don't really need to work anyway.

Anyway I stay because they pulled me out of fire when I was teen, when no other job would. It was one of many reasons I put up with them. 15 years later, it is the only remaining reason.

I stay at Kroger because well, it was hard enough finding a job in the first place. I finally have money for myself, to take care of whatever bills I am responsible for, and planning to save. I do see myself being here for a while but no 3+ years. My Kroger is a bit...chaotic. Let's leave it at that.

I stay because I pretty much have two choices for jobs without a college degree and experience mainly in retail: retail and factory work. I'm barely physically able to do this job, with basically everything from the waist down in pain 24/7, let alone a factory job.

Plus, the money I get is much more than I would have if I had to rely solely on the government.

I dunno. Some factory jobs are very laid back compared to retail. Quality control is a mind**** and warehouse work is rush rush rush, but running a machine can be cool if you can deal with the flat out boredom of the job.
