401k plan questions
Permalink

So, I just started with the Kroger 401k plan.  I just saw they updated my account with my contributions from the first week.  The one question I have is, when does the company match?   My account strictly shows my contributions, no employer contributions.

According to the information I have, it should be 1$ for 1$ for the first 3% and 0.50$ per 1$ for the next 2%.

Thanks

as far as I know kroger does not match anything. They have never matched a dime for me. Pretty much the only thing they do for us is offer super low trade costs for Kroger stock. It could be different for you depending on your contract and such but I would be surprised. you should ask a union steward in your store or a union rep about it. They would know more about your individual situation. Congratulations on starting a plan. Most people I know think the pension alone will be enough to get by when they retire lol. (i believe they are very wrong)

This infographic shows the match %.  I'm going to call tomorrow to see about it.

This.  We have have several old timers who cant afford to retire.  One told me he was gonna try to work until he was 70 as the social security payout was better.  Not realistic for physical job.  No match here as well.  I think its a crap that they don't match and I have an IRA instead.  If you have trouble saving, then the auto deduction to your 401k may be better for you.

I'm wondering if that infographic is just flat out lying about the match, then.

I would ask whoever hired you about that match.  But Kroger lies to it's employees all the time.

Management told me Kroger only matches 401k contributions if you are not in the union.

Another reason to not join the union
