Not freeze for a minute when on the main screens (Try to use a number, it just sits there without processing the input for a minute until it refreshes)
And also:
Not randomly logout so often? I can be using it for markdowns, set it down for less than 30 seconds, pick it up, and it logs off.
It's annoying because I don't have a log-in, so I have to get one of my co-workers to log in.
I'd like to know the answer to this as well. Different guns have different tendencies. We have about 4 of them that you can hear an audible click on every key press, and they have the longest time between time-outs, so I always try to get one of those.
We are long overdue for new technology- these are probably 1990's -my kids phone could handle markdowns, ordering and counting inventory better than these wore out old bricks
The log out times, I believe, are affected by your login credentials. IE: How you're set up in the system.
If I log into a gun, it will time out fairly soon-ish, but my dept head can stay logged in for hours, it seems.
You must be using different technology then. Ours have absolutely no correlation to credentials. It's just hardware based, as different guns have different logout times.
And regarding the age of the tech, I actually had a conversation with somebody about that. When we bought out one of the local companies, they had color, touch screen, RF scanners with a much easier to operate computer system, but we didn't take it, or use it at all. Basically the cost of upgrading something like that, company wide is not worth it right now as it wouldn't really yield much of any return on that investment. Think about it like this, just replacing the scanners themselves, not counting all the software upgrades/changes. Each unit is roughly 1,000$ and the average store probably has about 15 of them. 2500 stores and that's almost 38,000,000$ just for that one small portion. Factor in completely new software & the countless hours to train users to use them, and it quickly becomes apparently how expensive such a move could get for virtually no return currently.
The ones at the store I looked at looked like the same kind walmart used. I used to actually use some of them at walmart. Never once had a log out issue. It only logged you out if either a. the battery was dead. b. you logged out.
