Can they fire you for not coming on on your day off??

Well I went to go to work yesterday and like, my manager begged me to come in today (my day ff according to the schedule) but I was like, no I feel a cold coming on and like, I want to stay home and get some rest to fight it off. She was really disappointed. She says "if you change your mind please call the store". I'm worried that they might let me go over this. :/ I usually come in when they want me to but I just wasn't up to it today. Recently, I've gotten yelled at over leaving according to the schedule when they wanted me to stay longer (no one told me so I left).

Of course they can't! They'll play mind games with you to try and make you think you'll get fired, but as long as you passed your probation period you will never get fired for not coming in on your day off. Just come in and leave when you are scheduled, give it your 50% effort, follow the obvious rules (no stealing, do the tasks you're told to, and don't walk off on the job), and it will take a miracle to fire you. They will always yell at you no matter what. Nothing is ever good enough for Kroger. Just accept it, zone it out, and collect your paycheck. NEVER come in on your day off, because then you are basically giving them your cornhole to abuse.

No, absolutely not. You're not obligated to go in on your day off. You have every right to say no. Plus, if you say yes all the time, they'll start taking advantage of you.

 THIS.

Someone asked me to take over their shift one day (I quickly regretted it since I never get Sundays off, and I'd been working a long streak already), and being the nub I am, I took it.  I actually got yelled at for taking it because it was not for a legitimate reason (it was simply because they didn't want to work that day, LOL).  Last time I do that.

On the other hand, if you say no too much then they'll stop asking and you'll lose out on potential hours.

We have to have a manager approve any schedule change at our store.  Employees trading shifts without approval would be a nightmare at our store.

 It was approved.

However, as we learned after, the reason for the switch was not a legit reason for her to not work.  She simply just didn't want to work that day.  I was told that I just shouldn't have taken it.  Lesson learned, especially since this person has tried to throw me under the bus TWICE since I've been here, and I've only been with the company for 4 months.

No. Save your store's number on your phone and don't pick up on your day off. Unless you want to, of course.

That's no reason to yell at you.  At least they had you to cover the shift.  She could have just called in if she didn't want to work and you would have been shorthanded.  You owe them a yell lol!  Shouldn't be to hard to find a reason.  Get on it and report back!!!

Well the person who yelled at me has anger problems anyways, so I took it with stride.  Still, lesson learned.

I'm too nice for my own good, so I'd sac my own happiness (and comfort) for someone else's.  It ain't worth it sometimes.

I have only went into work on a day off twice before (that was a job I liked). I never did at my last job and there is no way in hell I would do it for Kroger.
