Vendors?

So what is the deal with vendors? The lady that hired me was telling me about all the different brands stocked by vendors. I had no idea so many things were brought in and stocked by outside companies. Are there many things in the Drug/GM dept. that are done by vendors? I found this interesting.

Anything that has "DSD"(Direct-Store-Delivery) on the tag is a vendor item.

Bread, soda, cookies, chips, crackers, beer, and among others.

And as far as I know, none of our Drug GM stuff were DSD items. Everything we stocked came from pallets or totes.

I don't recall every stocking makeup when I worked in drug/gm.

Seems like alcohol, Lays chips, bread, hallmark cards, Coke & Pepsi are stocked by vendors.

Would it count if they were only 'stocked' by reps?

For us, we get the makeup in the peyton totes along with the rest of our Drug/GM stuff. However, they're locked with a zip tie and only worked on by people from whatever makeup company it belongs to. Meanwhile, regular DSD vendors bring the items and stock themselves.

We stock the makeup at our store.  I've never seen a rep come in and do it.  I wish they would, it takes forever and it's the hardest aisle to condition.

We're a Boar's Head store, so those folks come in and stock their product, as well.

I don't know if drug/gm has any vendors... Hell I didn't even know that Boar's Head was stocked by vendors. Just shows what I know.

What I *do* know though is that vendors are usually one of three types:

1. The first type will be the vendors who think that they're the only person in the damned store. They will use 4 L-carts for 1/2 a pallet worth of product and steal all of your pallet jacks. These people don't give a flying **** about the customer or the employees, and they will clog up aisles with cardboard and shrink wrap until a store manager gets onto them.

2. The second type will be the vendors who have some sort of commission on cases. They will kiss your managers' feet for the chance to stock X product on an endcap for a week. They will treat you like gold and will always make sure there's a cart or pallet jack for you.

3. The third type will be the vendors who want to drag out their stay because they're getting paid by the hour and have no productivity goals whatsoever. They're not particularly as selfish as the first type, but it just pisses you off thinking they're making an extra $4 an hour doing half as much work as you.

Just try to treat vendors the way you want to be treated. If they still act bitchy anyway, then tell your DSD clerk to give 'em hell. We had one awesome DSD guy refuse a delivery on the grounds that the unfriendly vendor was 3 minutes late for his appointment. Sadly he got demoted for some other bull**** a month later.

I like Boar's Head, but they're so damned expensive.
I wouldn't mind eating one of their wraps on my break but they average $5.99 at my store, and that's for a wrap cut into six portions.

Yeah... It's a bit pricey.  I think they're pretty overated, actually.

They don't even make their own product.  They are marketers/distributors.

*Edit to add*  They still seem like a good company, though.  Nothing personal against those folks.

Yeah, gotta love it when the, they're all chilling in the back, boards blocking the way just bs'ing each other.  If I owned a company that did that I would give my people commission as the hourly guys just BS all day.  No supervision.  Then they don't level off boards, wrap, or condense.  The coke and pepsi guys are teamsters and they're a bit better as they'll only hire people seasonally first.  The rest aren't union and they are either milking the clock or trying to get finished asap and will leave a mess.

So a beer vendor dropped a ton of cases of beer today and they spewed and went all over the place. The look on his face when he came into the back room to look for boxes to put the loose beer in was kind of sad.

Don't even get me started on beer vendors. It's hard to tell if they're buzzed or if they really are dumb as **** sometimes. One of them took a straddle stacker to the sales floor!

The vendors can use straddle stackers at your store?

They can't at yours?  How do the vendors get their stuff down?
