Hey all. I'm a grocery head clerk, and I make a one dollar premium above the top pay rate , and am full time. I was pretty much at the bottom pay rate before I got the head clerk position, and part time. If I step down after 1 year being head clerk, will I keep my f/t and top pay rate, just lose the premium?
The reason I'm stepping down is because its too much bitching being the head clerk in grocery. The ddp pretty much says every daythat we don't have enough hours to get the job done, and management wond rs why our department looks like ****.
Is grocery head clerk the grocery manager? If so, your premium should be MUCH higher than an extra $1. Closer to $4. If it's just the head night stock clerk, then I could see that being a possibility. That being said, I'm not too sure. Everyone who has held a lead/manager position that has stepped down have all been with the company long enough so that they would be at the top out pay rate regardless. The store manager has some leeway there, they can change your experience pay up, so you won't go back down to the bottom, but whether or not you'll be topped out, I'll leave that to someone who knows better than I.
if you're in the union contact your union rep like other people have said normally people are already at their top pay when they got promoted. I could easily see them take away 5 or 6 or 7 dollars a hour from you... say you were at 14 then jumped up to 19 yup I could see you go back to 14 and part time in a instant it will all depend on your store manager and reason why stepping down and luck.. Good luck
