I would rather work at my own pace and get paid accordingly. The fact is; you will be tasked to work above your capacity for the same pay regardless. It builds character. My motto is: work long, hard and cheap!

To be honest, this is one reason that it frustrates me a lot and then sometimes mellows me out with all the same work load. No matter how many carts I bring to the foyer. No matter how many carts of go-backs pile up behind me as a bagger. No matter how many times I clock in. No matter how long I bag groceries for standing. No matter how many floors I sweep. No matter how many price checks I do. No matter how many spills I help to clean up.
I get paid the exact same amount for all of it. And it will be two more years before I even see a raise.

So. Yea.
All of these are in your job description as a Courtesy Clerk. So yeah, you're stuck with what you're making now. When you transfer to another department or start learning new things, then you'll start making more.
I started as a Cashier, then learned Service Desk and Accounting. Now I'm full time and making $9.55/hour after 2 years and 4 months. Because I was willing to learn everything on Front End.

Because the minimum wage they pay here is $7.25 (CC's) and $7.35 (everyone else). You would have to be with the company for half a decade to barely reach the $8 mark.
That's insane. I make $8.40 and I thought that was bad considering that i've been here 3 years and the minimum wage in Ohio is $7.85.
Here in my area the raises are 5 cents every 9 months, if I recall. The only reason that my pay went up from $7.35 to $7.50 is because of some new contract thing that bumped up my pay by 10 cents after being only in the company for three months. Then I got my five cents a few months later before I resigned.
Would you rather get paid $12.00 an hour to handle the work of two people, or $8.00 an hour to handle the work of one person?
I often handle the work of two or three people on my front end and I don't make $8.00 an hour. That's ATL division for you. Can't tell you the times I've run SCO from a check lane while I'm working the service desk. That feeling when a customer comes up and yells, "Does anybody work here," is priceless.
