Am I going to get fired? - Holiday vacation
Permalink

I am a new employee. I told them before I got hired and a few times since that I need the 24th-28th off. They told me that that was fine. Well I got the schedule Friday and they put me on schedule for the 24th and 26th. I called them and talked to them about it and they said okay and that they would make sure it got fixed. Well 2 days later I notice nothing has changed on any of the schedules. I plan on talking to them AGAIN later today and fear nothing is going to change. I'm going out of state for the holidays and in no way going to cancel my plans. Plans that I have had for months well before applying for Kroger.

If your management is halfway decent you shouldn't have a problem. But communicating the issue until it gets resolved is a smart way to cover yourself.

Haven't had much of a problem with main management, but the deli manager is awful. She could play a major part in those days not being fixed. Just yesterday she was cussing someone out in front of customers. She just seems to always have a bad attitude.

Don't worry about it. Your department manager can't fire you. Just make sure store management know the story before they try to take action.

Right?? That's all I have heard about management. My co-workers are fine but some of the management is awful with bad attitudes and no respect for their employees.

Did you request those days off on eschedule?

I did not have enough time to as this is my first week. I told them prior to being hired and after the schedule was made that I can't work those days. I would much rather be fired or quit than to not go on my vacation.

You need to request days off a week in advance on the eschedule, they should have explained that to you.  It's hard for them to remember what everyone wants if it's not in writing.  I would try to see if you can get another employee or two to cover your shifts for those days.  You could also talk with your store manager and see if he is willing to help you.

The problem is you told them AFTER the schedule was made.  Talk to whoever hired you too.

They told them before he was even hired.   How was that after the schedule was made?  You can't make out a schedule if a person isn't even in the system yet lol.  This is the fault of management for not communicating this to the department manager.

With the crazyness that is going on this week it will be difficult to cover those days because its all hands on deck.  They hired you to work those days.  They just didn't pay attention.  If you do not show up they will fire you.  After the first they cut hours back you won't be loosing much.  Enjoy your trip.

Ok then, I read that wrong.  I was thinking the schedule was made last week for this week.  He just started so they had to pencil him in.

And even if I was right, it's still management's fault! LOL!

This.  You're essentially still in trial mode, and if you not show up, you're probably not gonna have a job (and I think that would make you ineligible for rehire too).

It is management's fault for not paying attention, but at the same time, during the holidays, especially in the deli department, it gets busy and they need all the help they can get.  Everyone's on the schedule for my department tomorrow.  That NEVER happens otherwise--we'd be lucky to have 5 working a day (then they bitch if **** doesn't get done in a timely matter)

Well I was able to talk to the general manager of the store and was able to explain everything to get the days off I needed. She seemed okay with everything and is much easier to talk to than the deli manager. I'm fine with hours being cut as I only want 15-25 hours max while in college.
