I'm considering applying for an HR office position at my local Kroger. Unfortunately I am in a very difficult position right now. My husband and I ( who has a history of abuse) got into an argument that turned physical. He was arrested for AOF and the next day I was arrested for assault as well (long story to that). Anyway, I currently have a pending charge for assault and battery. Is this something that could bar me from employment with Kroger? We go to court in two weeks and I feel positive that the case will be dismissed as there is evidence that I was acting out of self defense. Assuming that that the charges are dismissed and I wait to apply, would having a dismissal for this type of crime be something that may hinder me from being hired?
I doubt a background check would see the current charge. Most background checks list convictions. If the background check searches the internet for news stories, that might show up.
Fill out the application honestly. Interview to get the job. Don't divulge any information about the arrest unless their questions specifically ask for it. Don't speak to anyone at work about it if you do get the job.
Good luck with the job and fighting the charge. Felony convictions are what hamper are what hamper a person from getting a decent job.
When are you going to apply for the job? You aren't convicted yet so you don't have to put anything on your application about it. Now if you wait two weeks, go to court and are convicted then yes, you would have to put that on your application.
Thank you both, I think I will visit the store and see if I can schedule an interview. With the holidays it may not be that I get an interview until after my court date Assuming that the case is dismissed, would having a violence related arrest on my criminal history be frowned on? Is it something that I should make them aware of and explain during the interview even if it is dismissed? I know policy varies from company to company, and I really want this job!! Thanks again.
