Looking for that one side/dessert

Ha, ok, so for a change of pace:

I'm looking for that one item that the deli sells with their lunch meals. It's either a sweet potato or carrot.... cake... thing. The question is, I have no idea what it is. It's orange in color, soft, and served with the chicken and mashed potatoes.

It's actually the ONLY thing I like out of all the stuff that they sell. I'd come back and ask about it, but the ladies behind the counter that, in broken English, that they have no idea what it is. It also doesn't help that I don't know when they have it out and I can't time it.

My guess is that it's carrot cake. Our bakery has it in little individual slice sized containers.

 Is it carrot?

When I still worked for Kroger, people would tell me that it was either carrot or sweet potato. I just couldn't get a definite answer. xD

Only a guess. If you couldn't get a definitive answer from the people actually there, Jeeezus... there's no help for them.

Let's put it this way, I'm not familiar with any sweet potato desert other than the sweet potato pie we sell at the holidays.

Mashed sweet potato. That's the only thing I can think of.

Is it a hot dish?  If so, my guess would be sweet potato casserole.  I believe there's two types.  One is made by Stouffer's and comes in a large foil tray.  it's for steamtable use only i.e. not for retail sale.  The other is Harry's brand and it comes in oval plastic containers which can be sold at retail.

I guess it's a hot dish. It was worm whenever I ate it. I'm not aware of the brand since it sits in one of those metal serving pans next to the mash potato. Except, they don't scoop it like a mashed potato, they slice it and serve the slice.

Eeeewww!  That must be one of those all natural Simple Truth dishes I've heard so much about.

Well youv'e pretty much answered your own question.  It was an orange worm.  Those are a seasonal item.

Ok... definitely not carrot cake, then. Probably a sweet potato casserole of some kind.

lol, I didn't catch that. xD

That's what happens when you type in the dark too quickly.

Yes, I meant warm. :P

A casserole? I thought that stuff had a /mix/ of things in it, not just one ingredient.

Was is savory or sweet?  What kind of spices did it have?  We can figure this out.  One of our deli employees used to cook stuff when she worked there.  Always had some type of casserole or something she had whipped up.  The employees loved it.  Don't know if she sold it to customers or not.

They screwed her around and she quit.

To me, it was sweet. Like really, really sweet. Hence why I also thought it was a dessert instead of just a side.

Next time you see it just point to it and say, "What's that?"  Surely somebody in the deli would know what it is.  In our deli the person who makes the food for the steamtable makes out a plan-o-gram showing what's what.

Well, I'm still asking because I can't get a straight answer. That honestly is the problem. Like I've said before I've gotten "sweet potato" to "carrot". Yes, even the deli people. And that's if I manage to squeeze a question in between their shouting matches.
