Hypothetical question. Would someone bribing you to take a shift off them due to a not-so legit reason be grounds for punishment?
Not me, but someone bribed me with food to take their shift, and I have no intentions of taking it anyways, but was just wondering if anyone else was ever in that situation.
As far as I know, if person A and B agreed to to switch shifts, it's ok. The regulations only say that you both have to agree and acknowledge it. How you come to those two things are entirely up to you.
Just like if I played poker against a coworker and the loser has to take up the winner's shifts. Just let the schedule maker know that hey, person B said I can take some of his shifts, and he will back me up on it.
If a co-worker says, "I'll give you this if you trade shifts with me" it's simply a trade. If management offers you something to keep quiet about something or as payment for something considered unethical, then it's a bribe.
It's not grounds for punishment, because the person is doing nothing wrong. All they're saying is "I'll give you this, if you take my shift". Now, threatening someone, on the other hand, would be different, and would be grounds for punishment.
Sounds they were trying to 'punish' her or make a point, and didn't want you to 'save' her. So to speak.
It's really not their business, if she found someone (you) who would work the shift, that's your choice. They can teach her a 'lesson' another day. Maybe you need the cash, it's your choice.
