Calling out due to illness
Permalink

Okay so here's the deal... Thursday I had to leave two hours early from my eight hour shift. I got our manager's approval because I was feeling very sick. Friday I was scheduled off. Today (Saturday) I was scheduled a short shift bur was too sick to go in and called out sick (the same manager that let me go home early on Thursday took my phone call today). I'm still not feeling well enough to work a full eight hour shift tomorrow so I was thinking if i wake up still feeling this sick I would call out. now here's my question: do you think managenent will request a doctor's note or fire me for missing so many days? I just know there's no way I can work feeling this sick.

At my store, you only need a doctor's note if you miss 3 consecutive days.

Probably not, but i would be prepared for the possibility. If you're sick you should stay away.

you should have to go through the write up process before they can fire you unless you are in probation period.

at my store if you miss more than one day for the same thing it only counts as one instance against you.

so if you miss three days for being sick should only count as one instance against you in the write up process.

Just called out. Still not feeling well enough to return to work. Same manager that took my last call out took this one and said "it's gonna go down as excessive absence but I understand, we'll take you off the schedule." Which doesn't sound good.

If you're sick, and they're aware of this, then why would it be "excessive absence"? Would they rather you come in and get everyone else sick?

I'd get a note though. Just to cover your ass.

you are out of probation, right? you shouldn't be "taken off the schedule" unless the manager was just referring to the day schedule. i hope you feel better tomorrow~

That's correct, I'm not on probation. I've been with Kroger for a year and some months now. I'll be returning to work today so hopefully I was just taken off the schedule for yesterday. Thanks!
