A few months ago, my schedule got changed on my day off. When one of my six supervisors called to chew me out over not being at work, I told him I didn't know I was supposed to be at work, and I wasn't prepared to come in. Since that day, this supervisor has had it in for me.  The thing is, whenever he wants to go on one of his "preaching to me about being a better employee" sprees, which is about once a week, he calls me into the back with two or three other employees and dresses me down in front of everyone. He then lets the other employees have their turn saying what they don't like about me. This has happened more times than I can count.  Along with telling me I am not doing my job, I am also insulted as a person. There has got to be something I can do about this. It's bullying pure and simple. I have even been told, quote "I will do everything in my power to make you quit. No one likes you here."

I would quit if I were you. Or you could get an account on this forum and send frontendslave a private message. He has a ton of experience dealing with people who are trying to get him to quit. Your best bet would call the ethics point hotline. No I don't have the number, my manager thinks I am a God and treats me as such. Or you could try frontendslave's method, just come here and bitch about it every other day. Who knows someday it might even work. Now put on your big boy pants, go to your store, find your Union Steward(I think his name is Stewart) and ask him about filing a grievance. But he probably doesn't like you either. So like I said I would just go ahead and quit.

I would go straight to my store's HR director. I would then follow-up with my store's Union steward and then call the 1-800 number or go to the Ethics Point website.

Honestly you need to go directly to your Union representative! No hassling with management! Next, you need to report that supervisor. That's just wrong and you shouldn't have to quit your job for people to stop. I've had some horrible things happen to me since I've worked at my store, and I record every incident, whether it's just writing down the date or time. You need to start logging down what times they do this and how often; If I were you I'd file a grievance since that is harassment. Hope everything gets better for you!

Don't follow him to that place.

He's on the same pay scale as you and the only people you have to listen to, anyway, are your manager and department head.

Anything a supervisor says is nothing more than a suggestion at best and proxy at worst.

If you are not following company rules then there should be some sort of disciplinary action. There is a correct way to do this as  was well. However if you feel like you are being harassed and or being treated unfairly you have several options.

1. The next time you have are called back into having a discussion with him and other employees, simply state word for word, you wish to envoke your Weingarten Rights. Request to have your Union Representative from your local office. Do not settle for a store union steward unless you are 100000% sure they are capable and knowledgeable enough to help you. You are entitled to representation when your work conduct is being discussed.  You may have to contact the union yourself and inform them you want to file harassment charges.

2. You can file a complaint with ethicspoint.com. If you plan to do this, do not tell any of your coworkers. Be specific as possible with names, dates, times, and what occured.

3. You can quit

Good Luck

Write down as much as you can remember, dates, time, etc. and file a grievance with your union.  The union is on your side.  Kroger management tends to stick together against the employee, so I think Union is the way to handle it.

Let me clarify the situation.

I work in Dept A (sorry not putting specifics in here). The department head told me to do job X. I was doing job X when Store Co-manager came to me and told me to do job Y. So I went to do job Y, which put job X behind. Another clerk in the same department as me got mad because he had to do part of job X and didn't feel like he should have to because he has more seniority than me. So I was told if I wasn't going to do my job, don't come in at all. It's simply a case of "who do I listen to?" at this point.

And because I didn't finish all of Job X, I was pulled into the back room with the department co-manager and two other clerks while they berated me for being lazy for about 15 mins. All in front of another person in that department who did not take part. There's also the daily harassment from another clerk who has gone as far to threaten me with violence when I got off work. It's stupidly out of hand. I am not saying I don't ever screw up. I understand discipline has to happen from time to time, I am just saying there are better ways to handle it.

I'd still go to the union. And be sure to let them know about being threatened with violence after your shift from another co-worker. Do not do what a fellow co-worker of mine did and take up the threat. (He too was threatened) he beat the guy threatening him enough to put him in the hospital for a few days, when he should have called the union. Had he called the union, he'd still have his job and the other people would have been fired.

I was threatened by a floor supervisor at my store.  She cornered me and told me she was going to beat me up.  I filed a grievance against her and she was demoted back to a cashier.  I helped another employee file a grievance against her too.  (She was called a retard repeatedly by this floor supervisor, so I told her to report it.)  It was rough going for about a month after that but I just kept writing things down and reporting her and she finally just shut up.  I had a witness and kept a detailed log so I know they will do something.

This other person in the department who did not take a part in it - would he be willing to write a statement about what happened for you?

Also, you need to talk to the comanager who pulled you to do the other job and tell him what happened.  From now on tell them you will not have a "discussion" about your job performance without your union representative present.  Then walk away.

When it comes to Department Head VS Co Manager - you do what your CO tells you to do and place all the blame on their lap. If they want to go after someone let it be the CO.
