Almost everybody in my department seem to be disinterested and crass with their words and humor. Also this isn't just teenagers, it's full aged adults participating in some sick humor. I don't say anything... but a "retard seizure" joke pushed me really off. How do you handle co workers who do this? I don't want to be confrontational.. but still. And how do you stay motivated around people slacking?

Just tell them honestly that you don't like that. "If you want to make jokes, at least do it away from me. I don't associate myself with that type of humor, and I'd appreciate if you'd do it somewhere else." If it gets a lot worse, I'd say maybe you could report them to management. Saying 'retard seizures' while on the clock is wrong, especially if there are customers around.

That has been my motto after a while. Can't motivate innately lazy people. So you do what you have to do to keep yourself busy and motivated. It's not easy considering where we work, but yeah.
