If the person coming in is already a department head or backup, the answer is no. They'll come in and do things their own way. They might ask for help as to who does what and so on but be prepared for changes.
New department heads take dmd training. Going thru it now..department manager development. There's a workbook, videos and in store training at your training center store ..been a department head for almost a year now but they've started this with me as the first in the new program...that's how it is in central anyway
I know at our store in the Houston area even the back up department heads have to take a training course now like the one GMwolf mentioned. For sub departments, they sometimes just throw you in there to figure it out your self if they think you are capable
