Yearly evaluation rant!

I had my yearly evaluation today and I know in the grand scheme of things they don't mean a damn thing, but the one I got today has pissed me off.  More specifically the attitude of the co-manager had during the whole process.  Out of all the categories I either got satisfactory or needs improvement.  I was told that I tend to waste time and wander around in the deli don't always get stuff done.  After all this I'm told I'm great with customers and a team player but I need to work on helping them more.  Example given is that if a customer asks me in the deli where something is I need to take them to it no matter where it is.  Even if I'm the only one in the department, which is often the case.

So I'm being told on one hand I'm good and the other I'm not.  I was told if I don't improve in the areas I need "improvement", it won't be "financially viable" to keep me in the deli, whatever the hell that means!

I'm not one to brag on myself but I show up every day, do my job the best I can, but this s.o.b. has the nerve to say this as hard as I've worked for this company.  Hell I've not been the manager at 2 stores that went out of business.  And my department manager signed off on this b.s.! I'm pissed at her too because I've never been told of any problems by her, but that's a rant for another time.  The assistant manager of the dept. at least has the nerve to tell me if there is a problem, and she hasn't.

Why the hell do we even have these "evaluations" if they don't mean anything.  They don't have any connection to how were paid or anything, so why waste the time and have them?

Sorry for the long post but I felt the need to vent about it.  BTW he called me up just after my last break when I had 15 minutes left to tell me about wasting time, and in the end I got 15 extra minutes because it was 9 minutes after the scheduled end of my shift.

Ya'll have a good one!

its just a paper trail just in case they need to use something against you. in my division the department managers are trained to do the evaluations and they do them for their own dept members.

"Financially Viable (def): They are warning you of possible demotion (not sure about termination), but I'd ask " what if I'm the only one in the deli? Am I to leave and escort? Will I get in trouble for that?"

If they say "No," them do what they say. If they don't really answer then....

If you need proof of their "No just stay in the deli" answer, you may want to 'secretly record' using a small handheld device. That's what I had to do because one of our old co-managers had a penchant for going back on his word. That was the ONLY WAY we could prove he said anything.

They have been making a fuss about escorting here too.  Even in the produce department its not okay to just point to something.  Its OSAT bs.  Manager are worried about it.  They might try to push you into the bakery or something like that.

Kind of off topic, but it pisses me off how you can be the only one in the department then still get yelled at for not helping someone right away. Tonight I took my break and told the deli people "hey i'm going on a break", so they can watch the bakery.

Well I went outside and someone called to cancel an order, and the FE Supervisor picked up the call and apparently paged me twice, I was outside. The assistant deli manager finally picks up the call, handles it, and the FE Supervisor actually told her that she was quote "Paging me for a half hour". Bullsh*t. But me and the assistant deli knew that wasn't the case but it just ticked me off that I very rarely ever even take one break let alone both of them I'm supposed to be allowed to have and I got accused of disappearing for a half hour?

. . . I've never been told of any problems . . .

Maybe you could make note of that and other objections in the employee-comments section of the form.

"Information contradictory."

"No guidance given during prior quarter/year."

"Do not agree/under protest."

The same questions are given to everyone in different departments even the heads.  One evaluation points has three or four questions where you could say yes on one and no on another.  Yep just like e-schedule/elms/and osat it's a good idea with poor execution.

I've never had an evaluation.  I've wanted feedback but it's just not something you get.  So whatever.

Yet another in a long line of posts implying/stating things are a certain way everywhere when that just isn't true.

I worked for Kroger for 8 years and NEVER got an evaluation.

Express HR said my next one was due in 2007!
