CMA employees take notice!

furious  How many of you know, that we got hosed on our health insurance coverage by not getting to keep our spouses on our insurance and those in OHIO DID !!!!!  Yes... they did get to keep their spouses covered !!!  According to a union rep for Local 700... They had the option to keep the spouses and their dependents on the health insurance . The trade off was to NOT offer insurance to part time employees. Part time to me means.. (1) school aged who still live at home and are covered by their parents/guardians policy (2) Retired folks who just want part time to have something to do. (3) Adults who just need extra money not insurance.  In short...part time is the worker who probably doesn't expect or need the coverage... because this is not a long term commitment !!  Is anyone else as mad as Hell??? or am I alone in this?

I think a part time worker is anyone living in the USA that works part time and is required by law to have health insurance.  What if the part time student who lives with their parents want the insurance for the vision and the dental?  Some of them might need glasses or braces, wisdom teeth pulled, etc.  I have great insurance with my husband so I didn't really need it, but when open enrollment comes along I wanted the dental and vision insurance which my husbands insurance did not offer.    I see what you're saying though.  I didn't get the insurance right off because I was covered under my husband's insurance.

Maybe they just thought they would take care of the employees first.  Let everyone else worry about family members.

Well first of all, us in Ohio are a completely different contract than you, not my fault that no one fought hard enough for spousal insurance there.

Second, plenty of part time workers do need the coverage. I'm part time (trying to get full time, see how well that's going) and I'm not in school or close to retirement age.

If you want to be mad, be mad at the people in your local who didn't go to union meetings and fight for the insurance. Did you?

Local 400 got to keep their spousal insurance, as well. We fought back HARD against Kroger's attempt to take it away and we got to keep it. We had to sign patitions and demand that we keep it.

We kept it.

First of all...No one is mad at you or your contract. I am merely pointing out that we all have sacrificed for this company. Our rewards do not even come close to what we deserve. People get promoted to higher positions of management where they have absolutely no background. Someone who has years in deli gets promoted to a produce position, then comes into the stores and knows nothing of the produce clerks job ( which he or she has done for years ) and tries to talk down to the clerk as if he hasn't a clue of the job. The stores are held accountable for poor decisions that are made by those above us, and most who have never worked in a store. And what about "friendliness"? Unless you have a title of dept. head, we don't even get a smile let alone a hello from any " company" that we are all Warned are going to visit.!! No .... our company appreciation will come in a form of " Barney Bucks" that we will all be so excited to earn, so we can go to a website and purchase junk we don't need or want ! This is not about pitting employees of different contracts against each other. Or being upset because you have the good fortune of having spousal insurance coverage. Good for you..I'm happy for you actually. Have you seen the stock price? The stock holders are laughing all of the way to the bank. The company is in the process of building mega stores, called Market Places, but the store employees continue to get nothing except pep talks on how wonderful we are, with more expected of us, with less hours.  Barney Bucks aren't accepted by my spouses physician.
