I had a customer yesterday who brought her own bags. She wanted all the frozen stuff in a certain bag, but didn't tell me until after the fact that I had bagged her groceries. She got SO pissed and pretty much had a hissy fit.

Don't get me started, I was working on the Wonderful Wednesday known as senior Wednesday, so the clerk next to me got those cloth bags and she proceeds to bag, halfway thru the order and the lady screams "THATS NOT RIGHT", She wanted it bagged in plastic andTHEN bagged in plastic so the cc had to rebag everything I was lucky I was clearing the lot or else that would've been me.

I'm not sure how long you've been a Cashier/Bagger, but I always assumed it was just common-courtesy to ask them if they have a preference for which bag their frozen/cold stuff goes in if there's not an obvious thermal bag to put it in. I always ask them if they have a preference, and if they don't, I at least try to bag it all together. If they have a thermal bag and It gets full and there's still frozen stuff left over, I ask them if they have a preference for where the rest goes.

Haven't had a customer yell at me yet for consulting them first. We were never exactly taught to ask them, it's just something I decided to do because it seemed like a common-knowledge sort of thing.

My bad i meant bagged in plastic, than inserted in paper and than rebagged in plastic, and to top it all off put.in.those cloth bags

I remember when I was a bagger 20 some odd years ago, there was one customer who wanted their groceries bagged in a paper bag placed inside a plastic bag.  It actually makes sense because you get the sturdiness of a paper bag and you get the handles to carry it with from the plastic bag.

A man walks up to the fuel center insisting he had 1.00 off per gallon. He told me I needed to change it. I told him I could not and that he needed to step inside and talk to customer service about changing his points. He began to get mad, telling me he'd go and buy a gallon of milk in the store so he could show me the receipt. "I'll go get the receipt and then you'll have to change it!"

He tried to argue about it with me. Screaming, calling me all the names in the book. There were four other people waiting in line for this man to finish his tantrum and screaming argument. Turns out his wife had used the points the night before.

Had one guy call me a 'stupid white inbred f*ckin idiot' because I proved him wrong on a price. Then he apologized and offered a handshake. Uhhh, no. Then he got livid that I didn't accept his apology (when he realized I was right) and DEMANDED to speak to a manager. I was then promoted to a 'pathetic, worthless f*ckin idiot who needs to be TERMINATED IMMEDIATELY!'

I had a guy like that once. He berated me while I stood there waiting for him to finish. Then he tried the "I know you're only doing your job" spill then tried to offer me a handshake. I didn't return the shake because I didn't want to touch him. He responded with a "whatever you worthless f*ggot". I rolled my eyes and told him to "have a nice evening."

He was obviously intoxicated.

One time when I was new, I had a lady come up and ask me for a certain amount of ounces of meat. We don't measure in ounces usually and I wasn't sure, so I asked her if she could tell me how much that was in pounds. She got so offended that I asked her and she started yelling at me about it, then she went to complain to a manager. The manager just shrugged it off luckily.

Another time someone had accidentally made a large fruit tray for a woman who ordered a medium fruit tray. It's understandable to get frustrated over that, but the deli head said he would give it to her the price of a medium tray and went to get the label for her. I was the one who got the order from the cooler for her and I was standing out there with her and she was still livid about it.  I tried to cheer her up and I said "at least you got more for the same price, that's a good deal!" and she just said "no it's the principal of the thing, I'm disgusted, this is the last time I shop at Kroger." I don't know what more you want, lady. (Wait, I do - I bet she wanted it for free.)

You mean to tell me you can't figure out how to convert ounces into fractions of a pound?

4 ounces = 1/4 pound = .25

8 ounces = 1/2 pound = .50

6 ounces = 3/8 pound = .38

5 ounces = slightly less than 1/3 pound = .32 or .33

1 ounce = .06

2 ounces = .12 or .13

3 ounces = .19

7 ounces = 8 ounces - 1 ounce = .44

If they asked for an odd amount (say 14 ounces) I can see why they'd question it. I could totally see someone being like, YOU ONLY GAVE ME .85 POUNDS! I WANTED 14 OUNCES!!!!

I've never actually seen someone order meat by the ounce. I can see why it would be confusing. That'd be like someone asking me how many nickels does this item cost? I could do it, sure, but I'd be confused at first.

This seems unnecessarily complicated! In working in deli,  slicing meats for thousands of customers during that time, not once have I ever had a request in ounces.  (A certain number of slices, yes, but never ounces).  Virtually all of the requests are either 1 pound, 3/4 pound, 1/2 pound, or 1/4 pound.  Maybe occasionally 1/3 or 2/3s of a pound.

This is simple math, but schools no longer seem to teach basic arithmetic to students in an easily-understandable way, as they did 50 years ago. Or, at least is seems that way with alot of  the younger employees.

In my store (not sure about other stores) there are small portable scales placed next to each slicer that register in ounces, but the main countertop scale with price label printer (visible to customer) is calibrated in 1/100ths of a pound.

So here is my chart:

1/4 pound ------------ 4 oz. ---------------  0.25

1/2 pound ------------ 8 oz. ---------------  0.50

3/4 pound ----------- 12 oz. ---------------  0.75

1 pound ------------- 16 oz. ---------------   1.00

Memorize that and you won't have problems 99 percent of the time.
